Does Your Sheltie Ever Bark in Protest when Training?

You mean someone has a Sheltie that doesn't bark

Mine crack me up, because they know that in Obedience, we do not talk until the end, except for the VERY few vocal commands. Hence....they are quiet. Rally and Agility FORGET IT. Since we are using our happy voices the whole time, it creates such enthusiasm out of my girls that they just chat up a storm during their entire lesson. It is really funny to watch.

No, I mean a someone with a Sheltie who doesn't insight people to call the ASPCA! LOL!

The trainer said that Ellie would probably do well and have fun with agility. I kind of wanted to do obedience with Ellie like I did with Honey, THIRTY YEARS AGO!! :eek2: The trainer said she thought Ellie would be bored to tears with obedience because it is a drill type activity and that she would become bored or scream, lol. She thought the high activity level of agility would be better suited to her personality. We are going to look into agility clubs in the area if there are any and see if we can test the waters.

Oh I don't know about that obedience training can be as boring or fun as you make it. Ember taught me that. Justice loved drills. Ember not so much. So we do bursts. Randodm downs, sit ,doodling like rally for heeling. go outs are her favorite. If she gets it right the first time I move on. Lots of good food which Ember loves. Now I'm not saying she loves obedience more than agility. She loves agility but obedience doesn't need to be boring.:smile2:

Well, that's good to hear! You've given lots of ideas!

Sadie does the kind of barking you're talking about. Its more impatience though, since she's not getting her treat or reward as quickly as she would like it. I guess its a part of being a willful sheltie. :smile2:

Sadie and Ginny will both some times bark out of excitement during training. Lately Ginny does it most often.

Deja is definately a backtalker. Some commands she's fine with, not a peep but you tell her to back up or lay down when she doesn't want to and you'd think someone gut punched her. drama princess I tell you..

Lucky barks at the squirrels on the outside, and when he wants out.

Well girls will be girls, Lady barks inside of the house. She is demanding, I want it NOW. Then I walk away and ignore her, it works. She reads me quite well when I am not pleased. Then I get the sheltie stare, and its like please mom.

Lady likes to have a job!

Well, ehm,,, you make me feel like Everett is defective. He only barks when in full play, or when doing something fun, like "get the mail?" chasing birds, or an occasional bark if someone arrives.
Other than that, if he doesn't wish to do something he will just stare at you. If you force him to "come" then he will move in s-l-o-w-m-o-t-i-o-n. Agility would be near impossible with him.

Probably the biggest problem with flyball - it teaches the dogs that barking during training IS FUN!!!!

LOL, I wouldn't mind if Ellie did a fun bark. I'd be happy if Ellie did a fun bark. Not a "NEIGHBORS! NEIGHBORS! NEIGHBORS! MOM AND DAD ARE BEATING ME! I'M DYING! SEND HELP!"
