Fat Shelties

I guess I should be very glady that Riley turns his nose up in disgust when ever he is given one!! (real milkbone or generic brands) He'll take it politely, then turn around and spit it out:eek2: maybe he knows that it is too fattening?

That is one small milkbone. I had the regular sized one calculated out at 82 cals. Though this was some years ago. Maybe they changed the formula. That is equal to 1/4c of most maintance dog food!

My parents Lab lost almost 30lbs just cutting out the giant milkbones. Sometimes we would get 2-3 a day.-equaling almost 2-3 cups of food. Not kidding.:eek2::(

I get the small ones. But Sandstorm got about 5 a day- that's 200 calories!!!

LOLLL!!! Is he conceited? Sandstorm is.

May I suggest 1/4 cup of food with some frozen green beans?

Maybe I missed something, but why the suggestion to Chris? She just mentioned that her dogs are now at their ideal weights and from using the green bean method. Or did you mean beans instead of milk bones? Inquiring minds would like to know. :smile2:

For everyday treats we tend to give our three veggies, berries, the odd small piece of cheese, etc. They think they've died and gone to heaven and we don't feel guilty for giving them fattening or processed treats.

That's ok! Actually, we tried a fourth cup -- and they had no energy at all! We decided a half-cup ration twice daily with green beans would work -- we just got skinny a little slower! :wink2:

I'm Sorry; I meant that quip for the post above it where it was said "now we must get the handlers into shape"
