Fat Shelties

So do they still act starved? Sca needs to loose about 2 lbs but even on the amount of food that maintains his current 32lbs he had Mom convinced I was starving him when he went to the party house last weekend. He's got her number though as the supplier of food and sucks up pretty hard. She even complained it was to hard for the cookies to come out of his cookie ball, I told her that is the idea.

Ember and Diva could eat a side of beef and still act staved. Luckily I'm immuned to pleading Sheltie eyes much to Ember's dismay.

Come on! You know that the food restrictions don't apply at gramma's house! Gramma's do whatever they want!

You don't understand not only did he get a double quota of cookies she was asking ME if I needed to change his food  He gets a cup or 1 1/4 a day of Innova Red Meat with 24% protein. Now he is a big moose but that is well within recommended and he a bit heavy with that much.

You know vets are really careful about telling there clients that thier animals are overweight. Especially if they are close. You won't believe that number of people that get down right P***ed. Alot of vets like a lot of owners are used to seeing plump dog and cats so slightly overweight is normal. 90% of the people I have worked with would call Diva and Justice too skinny and Ember just right. Even though Ember needs to loose about 1-2 lbs still.

OTOH if I called a dog thin, they all knew it must be thin.
That is exactly what my Vet said to me- after he told me Sandstorm was a perfect weight at 32 lbs-he is 18 inches. The vet sees 50 lb shelties and tells them their dogs are too fat, the owners get mad. Even though I was told SS's weight is right, I am very mindful of what I give him. We now give him a bit less than 2 cups of blue buffalo a day, because he gets about 4 milkbones a day also.
