Finnie went to the chiropractor

I have an appointment on Friday to get an assessment on Finnie to get a canine massage done on him. As much as the chiro helped him I wanted to see also about the massage and it's closer to home (15 minutes as opposed to an hour away). The price is better too (60$ for an hour or 45$ for 30 minutes)...it's also almost impossible for me to take him back to the chiropractor as he only sees patients on Friday afternoon (I work) and my sisters won't take him. There is another chiropractor that sees patients on Tuesday afternoons and I'll call and see when their openings are. Wouldn't hurt to get him in for both. Im still crating him when I go out and using xpen upstairs because right now STAY means nothing to him lol, he has to follow me. He does want to play a bit more but I'm afraid to let him as I just never know when it's going to bother him. My vet will be back next week so I'm hoping we have good news for her by then.

We're up to day 5 with no yelping...definitely a positive sign, past 3 weeks he wouldn't go 2 full days without. I'm still crating him and carrying him up the outside steps and helping him on the bed (I'm certain he could do it but I don't want to risk it yet.
We go see a massage therapist tomorrow morning for an assessment, don't know if they'll do the massage then but that would be best.

"So Finnie continues to improve. He's now back to doing full body stretches, hadn't done them for two weeks! He did it twice this morning and once yesterday...stretches his front end then each back leg."

Forgot to mention, when Mr. Chance had his bone spurs I was having a massage therapist see him every 2 weeks. After each session, he would do the same thing...
after the session was over he would shake his body, from his head to the tip of his tail. It was amazing to see how limber and lose it made him. No stiffness...
It seemed to give him so much relief that I continued until he went to Rainbow Bridge.

We'll see how it goes but I'm thinking I'll probably get Piper in for one as well. As performance dogs they would definitely benefit from regular massages, especially the way they run!

We are now up to day 7 with no yelping...it's definitely the little things we take joy in. He still won't do the outside steps, that might take a while to get him doing them again, unfortunately he banged his leg a few times in his race to get up them. I'll start giving him treats to get him going up them slowlyyyy!
Yesterday he actually wanted to play with Piper but I put a stop to that (it's hard after seeing your dog hurting for 3 weeks to suddenly allow rambunctious play). Fortunately our Rally class was delayed a week, he just might be ready when it starts...but I may just go ahead and give him a weeks break from it. I need to do some work with him after almost a month of nothing!

Bit of a setback, yesterday Finnie had his back leg up when I came home from work so clearly he hurt it yet again. Reading about intercostal muscle pulls for people it says healing time is 3-7 weeks and I imagine it's probably the same in dogs. Knowing this I'll certainly slow things down for him and instead focus on a slow rehab. I'm going to find out what exercises are best to strengthen these muscles so I can get him back to health. At least he didn't hog the bed last night lol.

Sorry to hear this, Lisa. Hopefully this is a temporary setback and Finnie will bounce back with some rest...easier said than done, I know! Sending pats to your boy....

Poor Finnie, muscle injuries are so hard to put right as you can't just sit with a dog and say "take it easy for the next 7 weeks and then we'll play lots"
I hope you manage to get it fixed and are back up running around as soon as possible!!

Really my own fault...I thought he was better than he was so I encouraged him to jump on the bed and he wasn't ready. Didn't Yelp but lifted that leg and next day it was sore again. I called the vet to ask her how long recovery time is with this sort of injury and could we do an X-ray now that we have more of an idea. Perhaps it's a disc...
