Former foster being returned to rescue

Why people say they are surrendering a dog and the real reason are usually two entirely different things. People will not self report anything that makes them look bad, or that will risk the dog being PTS. So top of the list should be - the dog became an inconvenience, and second can't handle the behaviour problems.

Sheltie4 - You're not doing too badly if you've only had one return. I think a lot of the time people fool themselves about their commitment, so there's no way you would know otherwise.

I hate that people return a sheltie for the lame excuse were moving!!! My sheltie is my baby and I would never abandon him no matter what!!! I am in foreclosure and probably be moving but the though of returning my rescue is non existing. I will look as I have been until I find a place that takes pups. I would love another one but with my situation I can't! So please don't make excuses for these people who return our babies. They are heartless period!!

I try not to judge but it bothers me to see all the ads on craigslist with people trying to rehome their dogs because of a baby or moving. Many of these rehomes can't be avoided but quite a few people view animals as property not family. That old table doesn't work at the new house? Sell or give it away. Same thing with their pets.

Over this way all the rescues & no kill shelters are full. I do sheltie rescue myself & have told all the other shelters to call me if any come in. I will make room. But when my husband was out of work for 13 months & we had 6 shelties there was no question of not taking care of them. They were fed, had shots & heartworm preventative every month. I made cuts everywhere else I could. Last year my husband was diagnosed with cancer & had 2 major surgeries in 2 months. At the time I had 5 shelties. I did rehome 1 in Feb to a wonderful home but I still have 4 & they have never suffered.

Every pet deserves a home where they can be safe & loved. For all of us who do that we get the reward of their love. For the people that don't , I feel sorry for them.

And people wondered why I was so neurotic about placing one of my baby westies! When I joined rescue I asked if I had a say in placements from my home. The answer was yes, they would accept my input as the last word. If they had said "we'll consider" then there would be no fosters brought here. Working for a vet I have seen my fair share of animals put down because of the stupidest reasons. Not happening to something that I have been responsible for if I can help it.
