Freaking out here...

Did you not say she had just been groomed? Could this have happened there - something burn her?

Emma was groomed one May 25th, it was 9 days later that I noticed the lumps with punctured wounds on top of them. I rub her every single day and never noticed the lumps until Saturday night/Sunday morning this past weekend. So not sure that 9 days later from grooming would be it either???
Unless it was a nick and took that long to fester up?? By the time I felt the lumps, they were BIG.

But Vet says it could have been that??? He is just not sure. Emma did well today at Vet's office, he called about the MRSA results and they said it has been about 36 hours since the culture; and wanted more time for the results (still growing). So I should know by Monday. New body wrap for the weekend. She is on 2 meds and it is getting much better. This will haunt me and baffle me forever!!! :confused2: Hard to protect my pups from this happening again unless I know what it was. :confused2::confused2:

My uncle had a small dog ( I can't remember if it was a spaniel or poodle). When they had it groomed, the groomer did something to the back legs and it ended up paralyzed.

Hope it is not MRSA, but if it was at least you would have an answer. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

You both have been on my mind and I am so happy she is doing better each day. I'll keep you both in my prayers and am curious to see how her tests results turn out.

Thank you for your kind words! I printed out a picture of the wounds and took them to the place I had Emma and Noelle groomed. I did NOT accuse anyone of anything but wanted them to see the picture and the possibility of it happening from the grooming. Not sure I told y'all about Noelle after the grooming. She started acting weird about her left ear; so I took her in to the Vet the first day I took Emma; she had a bacterial place in her ear (the ear drum was clear, but in her ear about mid way from tip of ear was not)....she is also on meds....also I had to take Noelle back to the place where she was groomed because they neglected to even groom her paws; in fact I was very unhappy with the grooming of both.

So it IS consequential that both had a problem soon after. I was very nice; told them I shop there ALL the time and would continue to do so but felt I needed to make them aware of these issues and was not saying it came from there; but is a possibility she could have been nicked in those 2 places (about 4 inches apart). They asked to keep the pictures and would send to their corporate and their vets in corporate and perhaps they could tell by the wounds if it is even possible to come from that. Well, we all know it is a chain and the answer will be "no it didn't". I wasn't asking for anything; just wanted to share it with them. But I did let them know I would no longer use their grooming department. One of the managers went through the process of how well they keep their instruments clean etc....again, we all know that not all people will follow those guidelines.

Again, I did not accuse anyone of anything; just the possibility and trying to exhaust every thought as to how this could have happened.

Animal bite seems to have been ruled out; spider bite ruled out, gun shot wound ruled out..... From my understanding if it was not from grooming it we are back to no ideas.

It really is difficult to get past all the hair, it is so thick...but I looked again this morning...it has blood, crusted/dried and still some puss. The knots is still there.

I can not imagine a dog bite??? I have a 6 foot wooden privacy fence and the girls are only outside when I am home. Yesterday I was outside with them. I do have a doggie door where they can come in and out but I still bring them in and shut the door when I am gone; so they are in the house.

Her sister BB was here over the weekend but I don't recall any rough play where either got hurt. This has really baffled me. I will be taking her to Vet tomorrow.

Sometimes just a scratch from a tooth while playing with another dog can cause a lump that caused an infection. This happened to Mally.

I personally believe it was something from the grooming. I'm glad you had a talk with them and took pictures. I agree..it won't be viewed as their fault, BUT..at least they'll be a bit more on their toes from here on in and it might "save" another furchild from such an ordeal. Afterall, if other people start having problems too..how can they keep denying it's caused from their groomers. People are "people," and not everyone is careful as they should be...no matter what policies are in effect.

Glad you're not going back there ;-). Will you find a new groomer, or do them yourself from now on?

I would think it is something that happened during the grooming. I am so glad you brought it to their attention. I would personally contact corporate and fax them your vet bills as well. They may be willing to cover them although may not admit it was caused by them.

Just a suggestion. I use a mobile groomer. it is nice because they come to the home and I feel causes less stress on the pup, they are only grooming your dog so I feel they can concentrate better without all the added distractions of other groomers and dogs around and you can also keep a better eye on them. My groomer also cleans all instruments after he is done Gypsy before he goes on to the next appt.. It makes me feel confident since I have seen him doing this myself. She is done in 45min. to an hour. This may be something you can look into.

keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

I like that grooming option, as well as the thought to send everything to corporate. Maybe they've had other complaints that aren't being "advertised", ...and they might just pay your vet bills? If anything...one can be sure they've been notified.

Pics of Emma in her body wrap....

Embarrassed to say....but yes I do have a groomer that has always done Emma. The ONLY reason I decided to "try" this place was because it is where the training classes are and I was told they do such a wonderful job. So since I planned to continue with the training there (and still will, the trainer is GREAT!!) I gave it a try; now I regret it. AND my regular groomer will be upset I am sure. BUT another reason I said OK was although I like my regular groomer and she does a great job it TAKES FOREVER!!! I have taken her in at 9 am and there are times it is after 7 pm before she is ready!! I do not like that! And with taking my new rescue Noelle I didn't want her to be there that long.

I will check into the mobile thing in my town but now a bit nervous as to who I let touch them.

After Emma is finished with the Vet visits I will re-check with Pet Smart to see if they completed their "investigation" ... if not, I will request to send all the pictures and info to corporate myself and ask to speak with someone there....good idea.

I haven't looked at Emma's wound since Friday as she is wrapped from neck to back legs; but she is acting good, taking her meds and actually seems calm with the wrap (almost like a thunder coat effect). She goes back to Vet tomorrow afternoon.
