Freaking out here...

Quick update, just got home from Emma's daily therapy with her Vet (he is so wonderful!!) and heading out to get a bite to eat since I haven't eaten since yesterday. :o)

Still a lot of stuff being expressed from the wounds; especially the larger one. Vet still stumped on the cause. MRSA test not back yet, hopefully tomorrow when I take her back in. He did say that if it was another animal (possum, raccoon etc..) it would make sense there would be defensive wounds as well if she fought back; but she does not have any.

He did a body wrap on her today for the areas with a bandage that goes from her hine legs up to her neck; I liked that so it does not leak on things and he wanted to see if the pressure will help with build up and expressing more.

Bless her heart! Seems calmer with the wrap; almost like the thunder-coat effect!!

Will update as she progresses. Thank y'all for continued prayers and kind words!

Yes, please keep us updated on your baby girl. Wishes and hopes coming your way from Seamus our sable and Harper Lee our tri (and trying) noise maker.

best,
Kate

Praying for Emma's TOTAL HEALING!!!!

I had a thought about the cause??

You know..?? I was laying in bed last night, and thinking about these "wounds." There was something vagely familiar about them. Then, it popped into my head that our "late" boy Nicholas had something similar. However, it was after an exploratory surgery. He had been laid on a heating pad during the surgery and somehow...some saline dribbled down onto the pad and it caused a burn! It was from the hot steam effect, I guess? From the surface, it was NOT something that we saw right away. It was found when I was brushing and massaging him.

I was wondering...is there ANY way she could have leaned up against something...taken a rest too close to it... that could have caused such a thing too? Maybe her fur was damp and she got too close and somehow the same effect as with our Nic's?

Again, with Nicholas....it was not something you could see from the surface. At least not until the doctor started treating it ;-)...just like with your girl.

Something to consider?

Hummm, that is different. I can't think of anything that would have caused a burn?? I do not have heating registers on the floor; mine are high up next to ceiling or on the ceiling. I do not have gas heat. On my patio on the back of the house I have turf grass on the concrete, so no excessive hat there. Gosh, I am still stumped and can't think of anywhere she would have gotten a burn mark?? If not a bite, I still wonder about the grooming...perhaps hot steam there? Dirty instruments that she was accidentally nicked with??

I am just now leaving for her daily treatment with the Vet; I will mention that to him as well. I am sure he is trying of all my speculations LOL I go in loaded with possibilities and he remains as stumped as me. LOL Thank you for your thoughts; I do appreciate everyone's support and concerns! <3

You're so very welcome for the thoughts.. You never know when someone might hit on something that makes sense. Speaking of which..if she was groomed recently..MAYBE it was the dryer?? Shelties have very sensitive skin and if the dryer was held too close...too hot...humm? Might be on to something here witht the combination of a wet dog and excessive heat?

I'm glad she's getting better. Sure would be nice to know the case so it could be prevented in the future though..???

Take care of yourself too, and don't neglect to eat again!
