Freaking out here...

I don't know how this thread got lost to me, but I finally found it again today. Weird, because I always scan through the new posts.

Anyway, I'm thrilled that pup seems to be on the mend, although it does not seem like you still have any idea as to what caused this malady.

Just keep on eye on her, going forward. Some of the earlier posts suggested spider or snake bites, but I looked at the pictures again and one of the scars was long and jagged. Tetanus maybe?

My heart goes out to you. It's horrible not to know what what's wrong with our pups, when clearly there is an issue. I've lived this time and again with Bacca and his thyroid and liver issues. Now I spend a gadzilliion dollars on meds and ongoing tests - just to keep him stable.

Hugs!

Whew! Glad to hear Emma is on the road to recovery. I have to say, I do think she looks cute in her blue wrap! I can imagine how hard this has been on you, I would really be tearing my hair out trying to figure out how it all happened.

Let's hope it was a "one-off" and you never have to go through this worry and expense again.

I would highly doubt tetanus. I had a baby goat get tetanus and the symptoms are extreme loss of muscle control. The animals will stand very stiff and they get "lock jaw" which will prevent them from eating. I did not read anything that would lead me to guess that she got tetanus from the wound.

How is she doing today?

Emma seems to be doing well last night and today. Now that her body wrap is off and she has the stitches in she has been rubbing against anything she can find at that level to "itch" it! LOL She can NOT reach it with her paws (thank goodness). She has been more playful with Noelle. They have just started this mouthing game?? They lay across from each other, make noises and use their mouths to play and then try to "herd" each other. Very cute. They seem to be bonding more now.

Great news!

Thanks so much for the update. We have all been so worried about her.

Great news. I wonder if they want to play more now because they could not for a few days. Love to watch shelties play. Hugs to Emma.
