Fuzzy to Fluffy Puppy?

Hi, I’m back on the forum now with a puppy which is a first for me. After my Shelby passed our mini Aussie Sophie went into a depression missing her so I got a puppy to keep her company. I don’t think Sophie will ever forgive me!
So Sammy the puppy is very cute and they get along well and play quite a bit together. Sammy is almost four months old now. At what age do puppies get fluffy? Both of his parents whom I’ve met are full fluffy coats.
It’s nice to be back on the forum.

Welcome back! Your two are gorgeous and Sammy is a very handsome boy! Puppies usually shed their puppy fluff around one year old but most don't grow their full adult coats until age two to three. This depends a lot on the line Sammy came from, too, and how his parents developed.

Enjoy your new family member! I'm sure Sammy will worm his way into Sophie's heart very soon.

I’ve found that you just never know when they’ll get coat…my breeder would say that any other colour than sable coats up faster but even then it’s a big question mark lol. My oldest boy Piper had a good coat by 9 months whereas my 3 year old (Piper’s brother is the sire) didn’t get a decent coat until 3 and even now (he’s 3 1/2) doesn’t have the coat Piper does. My 9 month old bi blue has more coat than Piper did at that age. Typically they take until around 3 to get adult coat.

Yep, I agree, three years! Liam is 3-1/2 and still does not have a think coat! Hopefully, he will coat up this winter!
Sammie sure is a cutie! Sophie will forgive you! Baron did not like Liam at all… now they are best buds!;)
 
Actually they get along just fine. He can be relentless but Sophie will stop him if it gets too much.
When I walk them people think he is her puppy. He follows her everywhere.
At 14 weeks now he is almost 12 pounds and growing like a weed.

Mark...a big congratulations on your newest family member. Sophie and Sammy do look like a perfectly matched pair...adorable together...and hopefully he is helping Sophie get past her sadness at losing her friend Shelby. I think different lines differ as to when they fluff up. My Laddie was about 8-9 months when he really started to get a more mature coat which is till growing filling out. If you ask Sammy's breeder when his parents got their mature coats they might be able to give you a pretty good idea as to when Sammy will get his.

Oh my goodness! How stinking cute! They match!!!

Sammy may just be thinner coated - guess time will tell! Brodie’s dad had a full heavier coat but his has always been on the thinner side. Deacon is far fluffier and his coat has more texture and is wavy. Brodie is sleek and Deacon is poofy. Brodie is 3 in November and still is not heavy coated.

Adorable pics! Losing is never easy on the heart but glad you had space for another!!!! Excited to hear of their adventures!
 
Oh gosh, what a pair. Congrats on getting another Sheltie, Sammy is super cute. I love that they are the same coloring. Yes, usually between ages 2 - 3 for full coat. My Meadow is 19 months old and finally getting some good fur going after her puppy coat blew out around 1 year of age.
