Well even if it wasn't best weather, it's so nice to hear that he got to the beach and into the water. Such a good boy, and inspirational.

For now, his food bowl is staying on the floor and his raised food bowls both have water. He seems to like it, and since he always drops half his food on the floor anyway....
he seems OK with standing and eating with the food bowl on the floor as well....go figure

it's a squeeze tube. comes out REALLY thick. way more crystalline than the honey you eat, enough so that it was hard to get it out towards the end and I'm sure I didn't get it all out. hard to know how much you need to put on a wound, I'm sure I overdid it. But the wound exudate from the wound really diluted it down over time, there was never any reside on the wound when I changed the bandage (the area around, yes, but the wound no). You could probably use a lot less and change the bandage more but I figured less bandage changes the better for cleanliness.
I also used hydrogel. It's a lot cheaper. probably as good for wound hearing but I was worried about slough removal at the time as Gavin had significant amounts of it.

Manuka honey is simply awesome, awesome stuff. I think it should be part of everyone's first aid kit. It heals, moistures, is a natural antibiotic, and I think anti-fungal. Can tell you from personal experience it works amazing on serious infections - if you use it. The 'good' stuff is a thick, thick paste that is really hard to work with; sounds like you had a good one Cindy.

I saw online a company that actually makes a dressing with the manuka honey and hydrogel but super expensive so sounds like you were doing the right thing!

I was fortunate the wound area was easily manageable with a bandage.
and now I have much better wound care supplies! before I only had the extreme basics of band-aids, vet wrap, and gauze.

FYI. Gavin has on a hydrocolloid bandage. (I have lots of those for blisters as I am a hiker). It is waterproof (to keep out nasty beach water). It is still in good shape. I think it will provide a nice healing environment for the final stages. will change before we go to the beach again.
