Electric is a no go for now, and a hybrid is more expensive. looking for a smallish CUV or sedan. will need to test drive lots of cars as it has been 20 years since I bought a car. I don't want to spend a lot on a people mover, especially as this is a filler car until electric is doable.

Well that's a surprise with the surgery! Guess less time to worry over it. Will be thinking of you both.

Car shopping stinks so best of luck with that. A guy who works for my husband has bought quite a few cars, successfully from Carvana and I know a few who've gone the CarMax route.

Keep us posted on how you and Gavin are making out!
 
Our cars aren't quite 20 years old -- Lee drives a 2005 Chevy with about 125,000 miles that is currently sitting on our driveway as it just stopped working 2 weeks ago; fortunately he was able to get it off the road and have it towed home. He's looking into what's wrong and we'll decide whether to fix or replace it when we know that. I drive a 2010 Buick with just under 50,000 miles on it. We're looking into replacing them both and have had the electric/gas discussion. We do drive for vacations so we can't go completely electric for my car. We're thinking of a small to midsize hybrid SUV. On the other hand Lee really only drives to and from work, about 10 miles away, so we're thinking full electric for him.

Since we're planning on getting a 2nd sheltie in the spring we will definitely make sure we have room for the 2 dogs, all their gear and our luggage.
 
Yeah..my car is >200,000 (odometer has been faulty for about 3 years). It's time.
thinking honda civic hatchback/toyota corolla cross/mazda cx-5 type car.
if my brother who works for ford can help out, that is probably an escape.
My current car is an old volvo s40, and I like that size (it's a compact), it sucks that ford dropped the focus cause that it the perfect size.

I know! I have a Focus that’s 6 years old and I hate they dropped the sedans and went with just SUV’s!
 
right now, with used cars being worth so much more, it’s not a huge financial benefit to buy used. it’s not a money thing for me tbh, but time. i have 2-3 months to find and buy a car. that is what stresses me. but i will manage. biggest worry is gavins surgery tomorrow!
