Getting Minnie used to being brushed

I’ve been using a non-slip mat on my washer to brush Cooper and keep all the brushes etc. on the dryer. He seems fine with the brushing. Yesterday he had his first bath and did reasonably well with that. lol. What shampoo does everyone use? I tried Burt’s Bees for puppies and his coat seemed great. His coat seems to be blowing out not sure if that would be the warmer weather or starting to lose his puppy coat? Every day is a new adventure !

Wendy, please be careful using Burts Bees shampoo. These news stories came out a few months ago about puppies having reactions to it. I have no personal experience with it but would avoid using it just in case. I also read that Burts Bees denied there could be any tie to their shampoo, but it's not a chance I'd want to take on a puppy.

I use Buddy Wash Lavender and Mint shampoo which you can find on Amazon, and tearless shampoo for faces.

Thanks for the heads up. I have used Burt’s Bees for years on my dogs as well as different products of theirs on myself so once again I guess I need to do some research. Never ending it seems. Thanks again!
 
I have a 10.5 month old male that I have been trying to get him used to being brush and nails done since I got him as a little pup but he just wants to eat the brush every time he see's its, I either have to hold him still or give him either another brush handle or a Chewie to distract him while brush him. As for the nails he completely refuses to let you come near him with the clippers so I have to take him to get them done at a local trainer/Groomer where he seems to be ok when they only use the dremel as it files his nails down quick.
 
I only use a dremel for nails too. Have you tried using a dremel on him at home? Maybe the groomers can show you how and you can try to do one paw to get used to it.
Yep, wanting to attack the brush is a common problem. I would try to brush for a really short time and praise when he allows brushing. Treat, treat, treat and praise, Praise, praise. It worked for my boy. he is a year old now with no issues when I brush him.
 
We found on Amazon something called a Pet Nail Grinder..Ultra Quiet..2 wheels and USB rechargeable. In the picture it’s green and white. It is really quiet and we’ve been using it since we got Cooper no problem so far.
 
Attacking the brush is a common puppy thing. I think they see it as playing and don't realize brushing is something totally different. Flurry does it too, and she's nearly two. I find that I can't brush her on the floor when I just want to do a casual pass over her...she'll try to bite at the brush then. I have to put her on the grooming table and then she stands. If you don't have a table, try putting your puppy on a raised surface...maybe your kitchen table with a towel on it. That may help.

I use a Dremmel on my dogs' nails too. Something similar like the Pet Grinder Wendy mentioned might work for you as well. I prefer it to clipping their nails because there's less chance of nicking the quick.
 
I have a pedipaw but every time he sees it he goes crazy lol he barks and wants to bite it he does not like the noise.
He does let me play with his paws as I have been doing that since we first got him, he just does not like anything coming near him.
As for brushing I normally bring him in my powder room so he cannot run away, he will usually give up after a few minutes and lay down for maybe 2 minutes and let me brush him, but it's usually when I am trying to work his butt or when he sees the hair he wants it back lol.
 
Brodie just lays on the floor with me while I brush him and trim his nails. I have a dremel that I use with Kooper but have not tried it on Brodie yet. I ordered a small trimmer from Amazon for nails to see if it is quieter than the Dremel. I use a Chris Christensen Fusion Pocket brush currently - he loves it as does Rusty, our cat. He is NOT a fan of the small slicker I bought; it was cheap, has a wood handle so when I go to trim foot pad hair, he chews on that. He is more than happy to lay prone - showing all his goods - while I trim around his privates. He seems to like that part of the grooming time! I have not had issues with dingle-berries yet so have not done a poop trim for him yet.

I like that it is all natural, it is not trying, it actually conditions and moisturizes. With the doxies, they tend to have an odd odor about them, and this leaves a soft, clean, pleasant smell that is not fake, perfume-y or over-powering. Both dog coats have benefited although I have only bathed Brodie twice.
