Had a problem with breeder...

I agree with others - lodge a complaint with the AKC and tell them you will lodge a complaint about their inaction if nothing is done with whoever is their governing body (eg the consumer agency) - in fact ask them what the complaints procedure is if they do not take action (they do have to tell you.

But do put your complaint in writing - it is unlikely any action will be taken unless you do this officially - they are under no obligation to do anything unless you make the complaint official. But they must by law have complaints procedures so of course there are things they can do - they are just being lazy. Have you asked them about their complaints procedure?

You would also definately have a case under consumer laws. You brought a pedigree dog - and it isn't pedigree unless you get the papers.
 
Sorry, I feel for you that you can't get his registration papers BUT I am confused about these pups your boy has sired.. Was it one of your bitches he accidentally mated in your home and what has happened to these pups....
Did you whelp the litter or your breeder, who sold the pups?

What is to stop him from doing it again next time she comes into season.?

Are we getting the full story, or is your breeder trying to protect her bloodlines?

So many questions I'm sorry, but it just seems a bit odd that the breeder has done an about face on the papers as she would have nothing to lose with you having already paid for the dog unless she felt it was not in the dogs best interest.......

I know, I know, I am sounding very negative but believe me, as a breeder, our bloodlines are like gold to us and from someone who has been caught out themselves and having a valuable bitch end up in the hands of a BYB believe me I probably would be very concerned with your situation...

Can you enlighten us some more?
 
Yes, I own the female. Last year was such a hectic year (We moved MO to NC, then NC to HI, and it was pretty hard on her. We were waiting till she was in a little better health to spay, and I take full responsibility for this. I NEVER intended for something like this to happen, and I was just learning about breeders, and important it is to ONLY breed the best. Everyone else gets spayed/neutered.

I understand I messed up. But I am trying to make the best of this situation, and I have 2 families that have already committed to agreeing to neuter contracts for my 2 puppies, and they know that the dogs will have lifetime return policies if the owners become unable to keep them. I already have contracts drawn up.

This is my first and last litter, but I just feel rotten because this breeder should have provided ME with a contract, and this entire situation could have been avoided. But now, to tell me she 'can't allow these pups to be registered, because SHE could lose her breeding liscense?" Seriously? If her bloodlines were so important, she would have been upfront about it, but when we said we were going to neuter him, her exact words were "Oh, I don't know if I want him neutered just yet" :confused2: So we didn't.

She knew I wanted to use him as my practice dog, kept giving me the run around about locating his paperwork, and now she is just avoiding me altogether. :uhoh: This has been a very frustrating experiance.
 
Sounds like a bad egg to me. She needed to know before you bought him if she wanted him neutered or not, and if you weren't 100% sure if you were going to want to show/breed him, she shouldn't have sold you a dog she possibly thought should be left intact. Also, no good breeder I know of sells a dog without a contract.
hmmm.... would it perhaps be possible to get a lawyer to draw up a letter giving her a certain amount of time to react with the threat of action if papers don't come? Granted, I know you would probably rather avoid going to court over it, but it might give her the push to send them.
 
Shetlandluv: I do feel bad for you in this predicament. A lot of my life, I have not had the self-confidence to stand up for myself, and have ended up letting people walk all over me. I can't help but wonder if this is what's happening to you now. I know it can be a terrible feeling. For me, a good way to handle this situation, would be to stand up for myself and belief that I deserve to be treated better than this. If you will fight for yourself, even if you lose, you'll feel a lot stronger in your self-confidence. I hope that I haven't offended you.
 
There is a Puppy Lemon Law. Each state has it's own guidelines but many states require that Breeder provide the Registration papers within 120 days of purchase. A complain can be filed with the consumer affairs within the state you live.
