Is it normal in the US that you dress your Sheltie out, for this I would never do with my dogs, never.![]()
It is becoming more and more popular to dress dogs in Halloween costumes in general. Some pet stores will have a costume contest. I'm in the group where I won't do it unless it's under special circumstances.
So, when I was a teenager, I discovered they made Halloween costumes for dogs! How cool is that? I wanted so badly to dress our dogs up (Sheltie and Border Collie). My dad said no, we don't put costumes in dogs. I'm pretty sure it had more to do with spending money on costumes for dogs than their actual comfort, as he had no issues when my sister and I put our dress-up clothes on the Sheltie. So as I got older, I kind of adopted the opinion that dogs shouldn't wear costumes (or clothes for that matter) because it's kinda mean, especially if they don't enjoy wearing them.
So last year, my company announced they were doing a pet Halloween costume contest. I couldn't resist since I'm always looking for excuses to bring Missy to my office. So I bought her a Super Girl dress. She didn't mind it, I made sure it wasn't something overly complicated and nothing that went on her head. She won the costume contest ($75 gift card to Petco) so that was cool. This year I haven't heard anything about another pet costume contest, so I won't be buying her another costume. Or making her wear the Super Girl dress again. I'm okay with bandanas. I won't buy holiday collars because you just can't see it with all that hair.
If there was a Halloween flyball tournament, I would most definitely dress her up to walk around in... just sayin lol.
