Hello from Domino

Welcome! Domino is beautiful!

Maybe Domino is turning up his nose at the toys in hope that you will cave in and get him his very own Sheltie. Phebe loves toys, but she loves playing with other dogs even more. :biggrin2:

What a handsome boy your Domino is:smile2: I can't help with the no interest in toys/fetching situation. My boy would play fetch all day long if I'd be willing to toss that tennis ball for him.

Welcome to the forum! You'll get lots of great advice and feedback (asked for or not! We love to share).

Domino is a handsome boy, and what a great name for him! He's a big boy, insn't he? My boys are both two and oversized, and I think Domino still has it over them. Is that why the breeder did not keep him? It's always good to know why a breeder lets an older pup go.

Hi Barb,

The breeder entered Domino in several shows but he never placed as he kept shedding his coat just before the show. She also already has two other male dogs at her kennels so really she had no need for Domino (although she has asked for his sperm when we get him neutered so I'm guessing she still sees potential in him). Lucky for me that she was willing to sell him!

He is much smaller than he looks in the pictures. I have never measured him but it would be interesting to see his size compared to yours. I am not even really sure what is large for a sheltie.

Welcome! Domino is beautiful.

It is obvious that Domino was well looked after and house and leash trained by the breeder. My only worry is that he shows no interest in playing wirg toys or fetching balls. I don't think he know what to do with them.

We got our first dog, Abby, from a breeder when she was 3 years old. She was too short to show and when she was bred she had a tough time. I noticed the same kind of thing with her - very little interest in toys. I think she was used to living in a kennel without too many toys and that was why. She also was flawlessly heel trained and could stack like a show dog - but she didn't know her name and she didn't sit. Also, she wasn't housetrained. Different requirements for show and companion dogs, I guess. :smile2:

Good luck with your boy!

Congrats on your new boy, the pictures are great!
Give him a little more time to settle in and see if he learns to play. The first week is generally unsettling for a sheltie...a lot of time they won't eat...won't interact, etc.
