William - do you happen to have a pedigree of your pup? We've been finding that miles totally disappear when we discover that our pup is actually related to another pup on this forum, even thousands of kilometers away!

Yes, you're right Chris, if its not because of William I'll never stumble upon this great forum. I just fell in love with Shelties when I read about them on internet.

I'll try to teach him settle, that is definetely a lesson William need to know.

We (my wife and I) still trying to figure out what he wants and how to manage our schedule with new member who so vocal, lol, without make him spoiled. No pee accident last night, we try to leave him alone in the house for few hours and he doing quite well. We found him sleep inside his crate.

The breeder said that I can ask for his pedigree (is it the documents of his father, grangfather, great grandfather, etc?) in a month. Its still in proccessed by PERKIN, maybe its like AKC in US.

Great news on the house training!

If you can get them to sleep through one night without accident, then a big part of the job is accomplished already!

Make sure that when he's outside his crate while you are at home that you watch him. They have a tendency to lapse if they don't have the contact reinforcement of praise and treat when they go where they are supposed to.

Yes, a pedigree is his line - parents, grandparents, etc - what breeders they originate from. I would be very interested to see where a pup in Indonesia comes from. A Sheltie must be quite rare there!

I just got William's pedigree, but foolish me I forgot to write it down to post it here today.

Anyway his dam is from Thailand and sire from Australia.

And about crate training, how long should I put him in his crate during the night? When I can let him roam in my house even as we sleep?

Here's what we did: When we were absolutely sure the puppy was totally housebroken (about 4-5 months), we would put her in the crate at night, but leave the door ajar so she could get out if she needed to (we have a dog door to the outside). The crate was still her "cave," but she had more freedom. Of course, you have to be aware that at that age, William is still going to chew. Layla and Bits chewed until they were about seven months, and even now, Bits will walk off with a slipper.

We didn't allow the girls to sleep with us until they were old enough to jump up and off the bed by themselves, for safety reasons. Hope this helps!

not sre if this was mentioned yet but the crate should be just big enough for hi to lie down at that age until he is more trained. dogs instinct is to not make mess were they sleep so if the crate is to big and he cant hold it he will eliminate in on half and sleep in the other. also if u are a heavy sleeper and cant trust yourself to hear him set your alarm at his age if u cut of the water after 8 take him out to pee and bed at 9. he should go 3-4 hrs at night. day is a diff story. if he is aloud to continue to mess in his crate he will never learn it will make it much harded to train. crate training is the best way my pup is 16 weeks and has not had an accident in 3 weeks. she can stay loose and she will go to the back door and scratch to go out.

also use the same door in and out everytime, so he knows were to go to alert u he has to go. also at that age i would just cary the pup out and carry him back in. he will get comfortable and start to walk out on his own will as he gets comfortable and matures.

Bacca and Indy are both 11 months. When I'm not home during the day, they are both still crated.

And it's only been in the last two weeks that I don't crate them at night. However, I may go back to it, as Indy is a chewer. This morning, I got up and he had absolutely demolished a ball point pen!

I know there are some on the forum that still crate their dogs, even though they are much older.

It's not cruel. Even when I let them sleep on my bed, most times, I find Indy has gone off to his crate to sleep anyway - it's his safe place.

There are several time I let William free without supervision during the day and he pass the test well. But at night (with the door opened) or when the door is closed (day or night), he still pee inside without give any warning. And since there are some item that I don't want him to chew, I'll let him sleep in his crate for a longer time, and I mean a looong time. He chewed my PC cable once, lucky he didn't get any electric shock, although I must bought a new mouse since the cable is totally screwed.

Talking about mouse, we have problems with rats and few days ago my wife saw a mouse in the kitchen. She quietly took William to the kitchen and when the rat ran, whooossh he chase the mouse. No luck though, the rat find a hiding place and William fail to catch the rat. He act like one busy dog though, which is funny based on my wife story.

And this is William's sire : Shelswain Achon Jackson (from Australia, I made mistake in the previous post).
And his dam: Puk (from Thailand).

I saw Limbunya twice in the pedigree and another name that appeared more than once but I forgot the name.

I browse over ads about Sheltie, its hard to find but from those who were here, most came from Australia or Thailand, or descendant of sire and/or dams from Australia & Thailand.

I wonder how much a female Sheltie cost in Australia? Caro? I read an ads of imported Sheltie from Thailand, its sold at about USD 1,000 here. Some other sell female Sheltie (not imported) at USD 800,-. Way over my budget but I guess its quite normal with all the fee and rules for bringing dogs from another country.
