Hopefully that's a light at the end of the tunnel....

We are home. He is in pretty bad shape at the moment. He cannot keep his legs under him and falls every few steps. I am hoping its just the drugs--which he is loaded up with. Doc said he tested his reflexes and he's not paralyzed.
He ate a few bites of food and drank a bit of water.
He hasn't peed yet but then he can't keep his legs under himself long enough to pee. He is fecally incontinent and will continue to be so for several days. So I have gone a full 180--from can't poop at all to can't stop the poop.

For anyone with an intact male reaching middle age (5-10 yrs old) you do not want to have to do this! Consider neutering.

Its gonna be a looonnng month...

I’m so sorry Margi that he’s in such rough shape. I’d say it’s likely the drugs they gave him, hopefully Benny won’t be like this for as long but sounds like they gave him big time pain medicine!
Could you put a doggy diaper on him in the meantime so he doesn’t make a mess during the night or when you’re not with him?
Piper was in rough shape after I brought him home so I can empathize with you but I’m sure in a couple days he’ll improve.

I'd definitely say it's the drugs, Margi. That's pretty typical after a major surgery. It will be rough on you but it's easier for him to be sedated, trust me. The incontinence not so much, that's tough to deal with. I second the diaper suggestion if you can use them at least for overnights. I pray this gets Benny through this and recovered on the other side. Hang in there, we're thinking about you.
