How far (in distance) did you go to get your dog?

Bentley was about an hour away.

For Lexi, we drove 9 hours to get her, and 9 hours back in one day to bring her home.

Totally worth it!

For our next dog, I'm willing to go ANYWHERE to get him/her if it's the right fit.

Callie was probably 1.5 hours away but the rescue people brought her to me so they could see how she did in her new home.

Cranberry and Dixie - breeder lives 8 hrs away (for Cran we met halfway. Dixie was the whole 8 hr trip)

Jocu - breeder lives 6 hrs away but I only drove 5 minutes to pick him up:winkgrin:

Tyke

We found Tyke on the internet @ a breeder in Oklahoma. We live outside of Boston, MA. We had him shipped to us via Air.
W:hugshen he showed up he was a mess -traumatized, etc. He's the only dog we have that gets car sick. We don't know if that early trauma is the reason or what.
BTW -he is the most centered & "normal" dog we have -usually very calm & quiet. Lovely beast.

Merlin was about half an hour's drive.

Revel was an hour each way to the outskirts of London.

Yogi was 10 minutes down the road so I had been to visit him since he was born.

Epic...a 9 hour trip there and 10 hours back (more breaks) from Kent to Scotland. Actually that's how he came to have his name as going over 1000 miles to get a puppy is pretty unusual in the UK but reading the posts here doesn't seem that remarkable at all! I guess we're just not very used to big distances here! :wink2:

I had considered going to Holland as the import regulations had just been relaxed and that would have been a shorter journey than going to Scotland. Of all my dogs, Epic adores the car the most and was  about the long journey to his new home at just 8 weeks old. Yogi was dreadfully car sick to begin with and that persisted until he was about 8 months old although now I would imagine he has clocked up the most miles through travelling to shows.

This is a brilliant thread - so interesting :)

Seren came from the local Humane Society. For Starr it would have been an 18 hour trip each way, so the breeder ended up sending him to me by air.

For Shelby we had to drive 9 hours to western Ohio (505 miles one way) Left Friday afternoon, found a hotel and then to breedsr Saturday morning for just a look. We were leaving for vacation in 2 weeks and didn't want to bring pup home until after vacation. Well we just couldn't not bring her home. So we brought her home with us Saturday and two weeks later she went on her first camping trip at the beach.

Hollie was local about a half hour drive.

We drove about 90 miles one way to get amber Lee. We got her from a breeder in Honey Brook Pa. The breeder was an Amish gentleman. Amber was kept in the barn with the dairy cows and her brothers and sisters. They had a pen made up with hay bales. My wife climbed over the bale and started to pick one up at a time to look for a female. The first one she found was amber. She handed her to me and continued to look fore another one. I said you don't have to look any more this is the one. I cuddled her and she gave me a big kiss and that was it.:biggrin2:

Amber rode home on my wife's lap and didn't get car sick.

For my Noah - it was about a 1/2 hour trip each way. For my Hamish, I borrowed him from a family member two hours away from me - he just never went home. For my three now - it was a two+ hour trip both ways. Worth every minute and every mile.
