How long should a pup stay fresh after bath?

I wanted to echo MissJennygirls post~

Washing of the bedding, around here is an absolute must with me.Thier bedding gets washed weekly, just like my own bedding does.

When they are wee pups, and crated,I washed thier bedding every day.As sometimes, even if you don't know it,they piddle small amounts.Especially so if they are not completely house broken.

Mia is the only one here, that sleeps in a crate, and her bedding is washed weekly. The others have thier favorite places to sleep.

As far as that clean dog smell, days or weeks afterwards. I don't notice a doggy smell ever on my dogs. As far as bathing,I use Isle of Dogs, and love it.
On Mia,since she is such a cuddle bug,and Brian adores the smell of Plush puppy on her,I use the conditioner on her.

They always smell great, even weeks after bathing. Washing of the face & ears is a must, even in between baths I feel.
Ours get face washes almost daily here, teeth brushed daily as well.

Okay, guess I can live with that then...if it's what defines him as a "doggy" so be it. Good thing he loves to roll in the grass a lot so he smell grassy every time he plays outside. Just hope the big dog smell is not something really strong.

Is conditioner a must for puppy? I only bought the IOD shampoo didn't use the conditioner. As for cleaning the ears? How do I do that with his ears being glued now for ear tipping? I brush his teeth every other day cuz he loves to eat the toothpaste don't know if it is a good thing for him to eat so much toothpaste.

is it dog toothpaste I hope?! Human toothpaste is bad for them.

As far as the ears you can clean them with a q-tip if they look dirty. If they are smelly and dirty the ears need to come out, ears cleaned and than put back in again.

Yes it is doggy toothpaste...chicken flavour...Mozart loves to lick the brush clean.

As for using the Q-tip to clean, how far in can I clean without harming the puppy?

just the outside of the ear, you dont want to stick the q-tip down the ear and risk hurting the eardrum. Just like a baby

Well, I'm not sure we defined "doggie" smell entirely, but when I find my dogs are between bathes, and have that certain "eau de dogue", I just spray with them a waterless shampoo (like CC Showoff), towel them down and give them a quick brush.

Good as new....albeit still a little scruffy looking, but smelling a whole lot better!

Maybe I should really look into investing in some better grooming stuff :biggrin2: I got a bottle of the Isle of Dog Clean Coating Everyday Shampoo, a IOD Violet & Sea Mist Replascent Spray, and a bottle of Bounce Waterless Spray Shampoo and Leave-in Conditioner. I don't really like the fragrance of IOD Replascent spray. The shampoo says its everyday shampoo, is it really safe to shampoo puppy daily?

Dog Bathing

Oh all dogs should only need one bath per lifetime, in a perfect world!!!!

My tri girl, has her own doggie smell and when you have a dog hopefully they are going to smell like a dog and not some perfumy conditioner etc.

I bathe Harper Lee every couple of months, no more because a shelties natural oils have to build up to keep them healthy and shiny.

Moreover, she needs to have her anal sacs expressed every week so she gets a butt rub every week with a gentle aloe shampoo for dogs.

Best,
Kate
