I am spitting bullets here! Toy Shelties? Bah!

While none of us approve of the breeding of teacup shelties, I do not think she should be reported or watched. With the AR fanatics out there, we don't need to be encouraging them to go after the average breeder out there who are just breeding their pets. In the eyes of the AR people, we are one in the same, and, according to them, we should all have people watching us, and laws pushed through to keep every single one of us from breeding dogs.
The better thing to do is try to educate, both this breeder, and potential sheltie buyers, and to speak with your wallet, and not buy a puppy from them.
All it takes is one nut to harm someone really doing nothing wrong. When I still lived in the city, my new neighbor decided he didnt like my dogs barking (despite him having two yorkies who started it every time) so he would regularly call animal control. I had countless different officers out who never saw anything wrong. Then I had an AR nut out, and was constantly harrassed, and watched, and they sent fake puppy buyers to try to get access to my home (didnt work... I didnt have puppies, and knew very well no one had given a potential buyer my address to come see puppies so I told them no I did not have puppies, and no, I would not let them in), and this continued as they were on a witch hunt, with their new AR dog laws, and were looking to set an example, so I finally moved out of the city. No breeder, so long as they are taking care of their dogs, should have to deal with the **** I dealt with.
We don't have to like what another does. We don't have to buy their puppies. We need to educate them... but in the end, we all have to stand together, as the AR people are after us ALL, and if we don't, we will all lose our rights to breed dogs, and eventually, to even own dogs.

 very well said!!! I 120% agree!! This endless witch hunting needs to end!!!!!!

That is beyond horrible, I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

Would we even have shelties if people didn't crossbreed? I am not a fan of designer puppies, like ya'll, but that's how we got a lot of our favorite recognized breeds today. I bet we will see a few of the more popular designer breeds eventually become recognized in our lifetime.

This thread is about irresponsible breeding, not about objecting to cross breeding.

Dogs in general, not to mention shelties, weren't meant to be so small that they fit in a tea cup. Often these pups are too small to survive and are born with serious health issues, or these health issues arise as the dog grows older.

I saw a 1 lb. Chihuahua about a month ago. This dog was so small that its eyes were bugging out of its eye sockets, which were too small to properly facilitate the size of the eye balls itself. It was a young dog and the owner was very proudly bragging about its small size. I personally was horrified. Bad breeding at its finest. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it had major health issues, if not currently then down the road.

I'm with you Ontario Sheltie....yes....this is about irresponsible breeding and breeding for a buck. Not about experimenting with breeding lines to develop a new or improved breed.

Yeah, its about designer dogs, again! I honestly don't get the trend for a golden doogle or a morkie or cock a poo.....why not get the pure bred version and be done? These designer dogs aren't alot cheaper than their pure bred cousins.....

I don't know what the right answer is. I hear what the breeders on the forum have to say and how it would impact their ability to breed if they were watched-dogged (no pun intended).

And yes, it begins with education for sure. But if people don't go on the internet and just see that cute puppy in the window, how do you fight that?

:gaah

I bet not. Simply because these are crosses, and don't breed true. They aren't "breeds" they are just "dogs". Breed a lab/poodle mix to a lab/poodle mix, and you get something that looks neither like it's parents or grandparents. That disqualifies it as a "breed".

"Designer dogs" seem to be bred for one reason - the public wants them. Not you or I or someone who loves the true purebred, who does not want the issues that come with a dog that has been bred too small or whatever.

Until the public mindset changes that this kind of breeding is wrong and bad for the dogs, nothing will change. This breeding will happen. People today are looking for something different and they usually find it. Just my opinion.
