I didn't get the WAG option (non-wagging tail)

Cran and Dix wag plenty. Callie does some- but I didn't really even see her tail for a couple months after I adopted her. She kept it tucked tight and it wasn't until she got more comfortable that I saw her tail.
She is cute when I put her leash on and we go out for a walk- her tail swishes back and forth- like she's saying 'look at me- I'm going with mommy' :smile2:
 
Deska was not a wagger when he was younger - he learnt to wag from Tully. H e does have a pretty short tail for a sheltie - more like a plume than a tail. I know he was confident and happy as a pup, but not having a waggy tail made it look like he wasnt.

He also learnt to curl his tail over his back when he is trying to be tough from Tully as well.:rolleyes2:
 
Ember almost never wags her tail. If she does it is a couple for feather duster swishes and that is all. Same with Pike.

Diva will wag her tail but it is the lower half and it never goes past the side of her legs,however there is some rear wiggle. Bock does the same thing. Vogue has a similar wag but it is more submissive in feel as her butt doesn't move.

Grizz and Jamie have big wags, the tail goes past their legs, swish swish swish, with a slight butt wiggle. Jamie won't wag his tail to people his doesn't know.

Justice and Porter, we called them the golden retrievers. Their tails never stop and often touch their sides as they swish it so far to each side. Their had a huge butt wiggle to go with the wag..
 
Cheryl too funny you posted this as I was wondering the same thing! Ally almost never wags her tail with people. She will sometimes if she meets another dog she likes. The only time we get a real tail wag out of her is when we've come home from vacation. She gets extremely excited then.

Asta does wag her tail but it seems tentative - not much side to side motion. We call her our tail waggin' dog but it's really only in comparison to Ally. The few other Shelties I know in town don't wag their tails much if at all. Maybe it's a breed thing somehow? I mean, every Lab I know will knock you over with their tail given half a chance! :smile2:

Maybe the tail wagging option (great term) is recessive in Shelties?? :lol:

Tully does that entire butt wiggling wag - its very endearing. Deska kind of swishes his tail, although he wags now he still only does it in a slow uncertain way.
 
Oh wow, no tail wagging, I had NO idea!?
I love the slow thump-thump tail wag when Toffee is sleeping and I come closer to him.. He doesn't move just looks and goes thumpthump... like oh good you're here with me. Never three or four thumps or just one.. nope it has to be two.!?

He's definitely a tail wagger and butt wiggler, I just assumed all Shelties are at least with their owners!! haahah
 
You know, I never really thought about it today.

I don't think Ginny is much of a tail wagger, now that I think about it. She barks when she's happy and excited. I'll have to pay closer attention.

Toby and Sadie are definitely tail and butt waggers. When they're happy they just about fold in half, their butts and tails are going so fiercely. :biggrin2:

Btw, love the title of the thread, REALLY cute. :smile2:
 
I had to check when I saw this thread!

Marlowe is a gentle swisher. He will swish 3-4 times if he sees me after time apart, during play, at meal times and when he is petted vigorously. However, there is no tail movement if I just approach him at home. When he sees other dogs, he swishes more enthusiastically but still no butt wiggle.
 
This is interesting! Pixie and Checkers aren't waggers...we call them "wavers". They'll ocassionally gently wave their tails, usually when we come home, but never with the enthusiasm of Barkley, who is a great wagger! All you have to do is look at Barkley and he wags. Is it that the girls are more refined? Subdued? Laid back? Hmmmm. :confused2:
 
You know, I never thought about it until you mentioned it! Baxter had the full intensity wag option. His tail would go all the time. If you asked him if he needed to go outside, if he wanted to eat, or go "bye bye", then you'd be immediately greeted with a thump thump thump of his tail on the floor.

Monet, on the other hand, being as shy as he is, doesn't have much of a wag. But, I got it for a half a second outside today! It was very exciting. :)
