I didn't get the WAG option (non-wagging tail)

I also never thought about this. Bailey wags her tail and is big time butt wiggler. Her tail wags and butt shakes for people and dogs she knows. All I have to do is talk to her in a baby voice and she'll smother me with kisses and tail wags.

Maggie is a tail wagger, when she was younger she would be jumping up and down wiggling like a fish. Zak is more of a waver so far. Maybe as he ages he will wag more.
 
I am loving this thread. It seems all Shelties have different tail wagging options. Unlike most Labs I've seen. I think the tail wagging option is standard and always set to high. ;)

Gemmy (Chex's and Barkley's mom) is a full-on wiggledog. Forget the tail, this is like a back-and-forth full-body shimmy. It's adorable.

Mark (Gemmy's dad) was a tail-waver, and you usually had to talk him into it. I used to joke that it was one of his "tricks" - I'd say in a babytalk voice, "Wag your tail, sweetie, wag your tail, cutiepie, come on Markie, wag that tail..." and the longer this went on for, the bigger the wave would get. I'd usually get a "Megan, you're silly!" grin from him, too. It was really cute.

Annie is also a Mark daughter, and she's not really a tail-wagger. Too dignified.

I *think* Tansy (Checkers's daughter) wags her tail, but she's usually bodyslamming me when she does it, so I haven't noticed yet. :rolleyes2:

I do think that it has a lot to do with personality (or maybe it's just how I perceive their personalities). The more subdued, one-person bitches aren't big tail-waggers (these are the girls who leave for a week to be bred and then snub you for a week after they come home). The party-girl social butterfly bitches (who leave for a week and come home like nothing happened - or who want to tell you how much more fun that other house was) are the waggers and shimmiers.

Belle hasn't started to wag her tail yet, but considering that when I got her 4 1/12 months ago her tail was continuously between her legs, she has come a long way. when we go for walks, her tail is raised and she is prancing and obviously happy.

I have to chime in here because MMM is of course Tansy's brother (Checker's son) and on the flip side there is absolutely NO SIGN of tail wagging while he is body slamming me from 95 MPH in stealth mode from behind. I think it has to do with personality as well, but MMM's non tail wagging stems from being too mischievous and devilish. He just never wants me to know what he is thinking of doing next!

But happy? Yes, MMM is happy without showing it through his tail wagging. He stares and smiles..........and I swear "laughs."

Yep interesting thread but it has me watching Sca's tail now. He is an all purpose wagger I think. Often there is zero wag, especially when he does the "what you doing buddy" stare. There is also the gentle swish, usually he is on the move but not running for this. Then the full wag for when he is ATTACKING mirror Sca or me. There is the tail balance for full running, frisbee and turns. Lastly there is tipup Sca :eek2: which was a warning when he was a puppy, tail goes up and you might be to late to get him outside :lol: Still the tail goes up like a tipup for peeing
