I've only done it once in my years trimming feet, and it was on Earnhardt.Oh what a terrible sight it was.
I remember he had just got a bath, and I decided to do his nails. They were nice and soft from being bathed. And did'nt I cut one to short.
I swear he bled like a stuck pig.I was in tears,he yelped so.I thought for sure it would ruin him from getting his nails done for years to come.
He ended up being put in the kitchen, with compresses to the foot,as I did not have any quick stop then.If someone were to come in that kitchen you would think a murder took place,so much blood came from that toenail.
I'm glad he is ok.Lots of hugs & treats.He'll be fine~
It's amazing just how much a small nail can bleed. I was doing Revel's earlier this year by our gate and cut two, something I've not done before and there was blood everywhere and what made it worse was that it was the school hometime, the children and mums were all walking past and I was looking like I was butchering the dog not trying to groom him

Thankfully the bleeding did stop eventually and he's not held it against me
Our shelties are so forgiving
