I finally brought a Dremel

I had to do the dogs nails last night and I did Calliesmom's trick of a treat per nail with Finnie (I put him on his back between my legs and he hates this) and I have to say that by the last nail he was totally relaxed. Of course Piper (whom I did first) was on the floor looking at me as if to say 'where's mine???' lol.

Looks like the quick in the overgrown nail is quite low. But I'm pretty useless at holding the magnifying light (lights the black nail) and the paw and Dremel. I really need a third hand.

Yes, I use the most courser one for that very reason... it is faster and does not build up so much friction heat!

My first that came with the dremel lasted pretty long, but when I got the replacement from Dremel on amazon, it only made it two years before I was constantly recharging, plus it wasn't powering the motor like it should either. Didn't realize that until I used the fresh one for the first time!

I had the same issue and had to purchase a replacement battery
 
I love the dremel. It's so easy to stop when you get close to the blood vessel. But I can't clip Bailey's nails by myself. I need someone to distract her by feeding her treats. My 13 pound monster is super strong and some how pushes my whole arm away with her one tiny little paw.

Thanks Hanne, I will try wrapping it up in a towel. I think between her struggling and my ineptitude I may have gotten some of her trouser fur caught. It's mostly that one nail I wanted the dremel for, I'm pretty quick at clipping and filing nails usually. Although I may try the dew claws too.

Going to make another attempt tomorrow after she has a physio appointment.
 
Funny you just posted this, Caro, as I just bought my first Dremel about a week ago. I borrowed a friend's (I was so nervous!) but I absolutely love it. Luckily Elise, Lexi, and Bentley don't mind it at all.

I really got it for Elise as she needs to have shorter nails for the show ring, and she has two stubborn black nails right up front that I just can't seem to clip short enough.

It's really a life changer. I will say that it didn't go quite as well with Enzo (he's terrible about nails no matter how I do them!) and I obtained my first "Dremel injury" :rolleyes: but luckily it's not that bad--just a little burn/cut right below my nail on my finger.

Good looking paws and great looking pupper!

I use a Dremel on Kooper but not yet on Brodie. Kooper has to be muzzled to do nails - he's a handful and will gladly bite whoever attempts - and he is a food driven dog. I do not allow Brodie to see Kooper getting his nails done.

I hope to be able to have Brodie nice and calm, do the treat thing, so I don't have a 2nd dog that is a handful with nails.
 
Wish I could get her paws to look as good as that! So far I've had no success, Tully just gets up and leaves. I don't think it's that useful for tiny little paws.
