Are you serious? :uhoh: It's 9 pm in Arkansas when most of the fun happens. You couldn't pay me to be outside after dark. Wolves, possums, armadillos, skunks, ect. Since I haven't seen him/her since I am hoping that the armadillo is gone for good. Either that or he/she is going for reinforcements! :lol:


They are still shooting fireworks off down the street tonight!. I bet it's the same morons who play their music too loud. I can hear their music over my air conditioner, fan, and tv! I guess they took a break from music to celebrate the 4th.

They better have this mess out of their systems by the 7th is all I have to say. :mad:

Come to Texas...we have armadillos sunbathing by the side of the roads.:dead: :lol: Seriously though, armadillos mainly destroy yards by digging up grass to get to grub worms. They can be very destructive but harmless as far as attacking anything.

Worst I have here is foxes!:lol: Though the local bat can give you a shock when it sweeps past your head.

Its also been so mild here I've been letting Cadbury out at 10.30pm then standing in the garden and drinking my bedtime cup of tea while he pootles around.

Mind you, if we had wolves I might reconsider that!:eek2:
 
We've had echidnas (spiny anteaters) in the yard. Deska LOVEs them - they are round and cute and they DIG so he thinks that makes them lots of fun. They really dig in so its darn hard to move them, have to resort to a shovel and very thick gloves.

Tully saw her first possum last week when we went for a walk in the dark. She went right up to it to sniff before it screeched and moved. Boy did she get a shock!
 
We don't live in town and our area is pretty populated but we still get critters. We have lots of rabbits, squirrels, deer and the infamous skunks. Our neighbor has a family of skunks living under his barn this year. He was supposed to "take care" of that last weekend. Don't know how(didn't ask) or if he did but I hope so. Opossums, a fox, and black bear have been seen several times over the last few years. The opossums and the fox don't worry me much but that bear. :eek2:
 
I was walking Zoey as usual yesterday and out of nowhere, someone popped a firecracker. It did a twirly sound, then bang.

It was 30 degrees outside and Zoey was exhausted walking with me. She turned her head and looked at the general direction where the pop came from, and resumed her walk as usual.

I was glad she didn't get bothered by it. Zoey seems pretty indifferent to most sounds around her (blender, vaccum, hairdryer, plastic bags, horns, cars), unless they're the dogs next door, or a motorcycle.
 
Ann, we have the same problem here and there were definitely more last night (the 5th!). I'm hoping we're done now!

There are bats here, too. In the caves they have as tourist attractions here they hand upside down while they do the tours. Creepy!

There was a bat in the backroom of Wal-Mart at the old store before they made ours a super center. I went into the backroom and almost had a heartattack. Those things have HUGE wingspans! It was like a cat with wings! Good grief! :eek2:

Or maybe I was just so scared I thought it was as big as a cat? :lol: Still creepy either way. The manager liked to have never caught it.
 
They are illegal in this state, except when done as professional exibits with a permit. It doesn't stop people from going over the border and buying them. Even though it drives the dog nuts it wouldn't bother me as much if people were considerate. As others have stated it isn't a one weekend event here. People set them off as soon as it gets warm and we will have them all summer. Some people are smart enough to realize there are precautions to take when the area is dry to prevent fires, others closer to here not so bright. One of the "smarter" neighbors almost set the neighborhood on fire. A sobor neighbor put out the blaze on time.

Bailey's issue with thunder carries over to fireworks. It was never this bad when he was a puppy. The muskets that go off during the local parades even bother him now. Even when they go off down the block it sets off his flight or fight reflexes. So I have no desire to stop the parades to protect his fears. I am sorry he's scared, but at a certain point he has to cope.

However, I do object to the idiots who break the laws and come darn close to destroying my property in the process.
