I miss agility

It's different depending who you train with and what area you're located in. Around here, people are mainly AKC folk with the occasional USDAA show sprinkled in. I used to know a lot of people that did both AKC and NADAC but they really seem to be much more split now with the NADAC people kinda staying to themselves. We knew very few people when we went to the NADAC show and I've been competing for 13 years now so I thought I knew most of the competitors in the area until we went to that show. We knew I think 3 or 4 people there. And it was at one of the very common agility sites.

Most of the shows here within 2-3 hrs are AKC, then I would say Nadac and then USDAA. there's no CPE or TDAA that I know of around here. there is an ASCA club in the FL panhandle but that's the only one that I know of.
The USDAA trial is relatively new to the area- went last year to watch, there were people there that I didn't know but also lots of the people that I see at the other trials.

Oh yeah CPE is really growing in our area too.

Um, we kinda hijacked the thread :o lol

The majority of the trials here in my area is AKC and also we have the largest AKC agility trial in the country in Nov.here, then its USDAA, CPE,ASCA,NADAC, and then Teacup agility.

we're providing Cheryl with motivation:winkgrin:

You guys crack me up. I've just been reading and smiling. Since I started in NADAC, I know what it's all about. :) In SoCal, people were either heavily into AKC or USDAA (not typically both). There are WAY more AKC trials than anything else.

Up here in OR, I'm starting to see that things are so far away that it's almost a take what you can get. The closest location so far, has been in WA at about 45 mins away. I'm actually going to go there on Sunday to help with their NADAC trial and join the club. :)

It's kinda weird (maybe). One club does NADAC, USDAA, CPE. Another club does only AKC. So, yes, I'm joining both. Thankfully it's only $25 total for both for the year (half price since it's after June, LOL).

I haven't figured out what they focus on up here yet. Mostly because most trials are 4+ hours away and I'm not going to those.

you know we try hard:winkgrin:

I'm glad to hear that you have found some clubs to join- that is awesome. and that one is Nadac where you can do all kinds of fun stuff:yes:
I am actually in 2 clubs- my first one- AKC- we do agility and obedience/rally trials and about 1.5 yrs ago, I also joined the local Nadac club- 3 agility trials a year. so that's 5 trials I am involved with- makes me wonder why I go to anything else:lol:

My friend is in a similar situation. Her lovely terrier who she started competing with a couple of years ago damaged her leg. The vet put in a metal plate and after six months said she could go back to agility. She went back and was fine, last week, just before her first comp post-injury she went to pick up a ball and started limping on the opposite leg. It might be the knee.

So she is probably retired now for good. My friend has her younger dog but he is harder to run and not as enthusiastic as her older girl.

She is thinking of finding a surrogate dog to run. We talked about her training up her mum's young dog. I wonder if you could find someone who has a spare dog they wouldn't mind you running?

However I wouldn't give up on Koji, just keep working to reduce his reactivity, which would then make it less stressful for you and him to do agility.

OK, since no-one else asked, how big is the largest AKC agility trial in the country?
I think the largest (AKC) by # of days out here has been 5 consecutive days, with up to 990 runs a day, maybe 660 on the last day.
How many rings are running consecutively?
Out here, haven't seen more than 3 in AKC, but 5 in USDAA isn't unusual.

Four days, 1960 run limit per day according to akc website.
We have the March cluster here which I believe is the biggest all around dog show.
