I took in a rescue today

shelties really do stick together

A few months back I had one just appear under my balcony window!
I went out and he came to me and my sheltie. He was a little guy, but obviously well cared for (except he had a 'lion' cut, no tags or collar, and wasn't fixed). When I was putting up signs the owner found me as they were driving around looking for Ace.

I hope you find a rescue for your new sheltie :D Otherwise, I'm sure we would all donate to help you out!

I think someone knew to drop her off at your place and how wonderful of you to take her in and heal her back to health. I would like to think there is someone out there searching for her. I just can't imagine anyone treating a dog so badly. Keep up posted on her.

Well it's true as we all know that Shelties can bolt from their homes and be lost for months, but extremely suspicious that she just suddenly appeared in your yard. I do think someone "dumped" her on you. Of course you will be sure not to expose your own dogs to anything but think of this as an opportunity to collect some really good karma. This poor dog is in need of basic care.

I think there are Sheltie rescues in Kentucky, so that's always an option. But I can tell you from experience you will feel pretty good about helping her in whatever way you can.

Pictures, please?

Sharon

This is probably true....but it could be someone's pet that was lost, someone found it, and figured it was hers since she has Shelties. You never know. I just know the heartbreak of searching for a lost pet....so I just always want to make sure that this pup is not chipped. Just to be sure.

Oh, I'm definitely keeping her seperate until we get my vet to check her out. I'm also taking her out front to do her business, and am picking up poop to try and prevent her from giving my girls worms... however, I do keep a bottle of fenbendazole at the house for when I have litters, so I'm planning to go ahead and treat her, and will go ahead and treat the girls as well, since the dog was dropped off in my backyard. I will have my vet check her for a chip when we go in.
I'll try to get some pictures in the morning. You really can't tell just by looking at her, except for her legs, that she's so thin. She has quite a lot of coat. I'll warn everyone now, the coat she has doesn't look good from where it's stained so brown :/ A bath wasn't enough to remove the stains from her coat.
She doesn't look to be very old... perhaps a puppy still, doesn't look older than a year. She's very small. Maybe 11-12" at most.
We do have two sheltie rescues here in KY. One is the breeder of one of my dogs, and she's currently in Florida. The other is here in the same city as me, but she's so overburdened with rescues that I just don't have the heart to take her another.
Though I won't be able to keep her, it isn't a problem for her to stay here and get back to being healthy.

Oh my WORD
She lets you bathe her already? You're an Angel! Good for you, sounds like you got the situation well under control!
Hats off to you and let me know if there is anything I can do to help

Also....you may want to see if the local shelter can scan her for a microchip. And also see if someone is looking for a sheltie.

thanks for caring.
Danielle

You raised a good point, Danielle. Certainly if she turns out to be micro-chipped, she might just be a run away rather than neglected.

Poor little girl. With her age and size, she'll find her forever home in no time.

I still suggest checking craigslist and your local shelter to see if anyone reported a missing sheltie.

Good luck and thank your taking care of this pup :)
