Im Not Peeing There!!! You are CRAZY!

I feel your pain. When we had the blizzard a few years back I only cleared off a portion of our paver patio and my three Shelties refused to go! I ended up shoveling a path 30 feet over to their pea gravel area and had to keep shoveling every hour for the duration of this snow event. Boy was I tired.

I have a suggestion that may or may not work. Take your little guy up to his favorite spot and let him pee/poop, then tear up some of that soggy grass and a few poop logs back to the area where you want him to go. The familiar odor may just do the trick. Let me know if it works. Good luck!!

Even if the paper towel trick doesn't work, you will impress all your neighbours because they will be thinking, 'Wow, not only does he clean up his dog's poop, he also mops up it's pee!!':biggrin2:
I am watching your results with great interest because lately our 2 have been thinking that they really don't want to go pee before bed, so I will have to try the command technique.

LOL Yeah, I hope noone sees me wiping off trees and bushes.. TOO funny!!


I am going to let Snickers pee on his land for a few more days and see if he gets the commands down . I will keep his progress updated.

This had happened several times within the last 2 weeks, so, I have resorted to giving-in and taking her right back out the FRONT door by herself. I just hope she's grows out of it as she gets older.......:rolleyes2:

Snickers and Sadie must have went to the same school of stubbornness !!! I need to get him to co-operate because I cant deal with this when it gets cold and it also sucks at night when i am walking up the hill in the dark with a flashlight, poo bag, leash, gun (wild animals).

We have a similar problem with Meggie when we go to camp. She will peepee and poopie on comand at home but that first night there I can't get her to go. I just give up and so far no accidents but she will get me up during the night when she can't hold it any longer. I take her out flashlight and all and she goes. Then once she has gone she will use the same spot the whole time we are there. On her last pee of the night she gets a couple cheerios after she goes to assure that she goes before bed. She goes really fast if she thinks she will get a treat. If you can get that first pee out it will get much easier from there.
 
This topic is so funny. The things we do for our fur babies! Every winter I shovel what I call a bunny trail around the perimeter of the yard with spokes going in the center and big round shoveled areas foe Danny to do business in. Not once has he gone in these shoveled area. He'd rather go neck deep in the snow and somehow go body plowing as he goes. Good idea to train to go on command as it gets cold fast out there in the winter plus those wild animals, we have coyotes. Can't wait for your updates.

Snickers is the same way.. I will shovel out a huge poo area and he will act like its full of monsters and barrel thru the snow to find a spot that "he" likes.. but i cant shovel "his" spot because the monsters will occupy it and he will have to go elsewhere.:eek2:
 
I tried to get him to go in the yard today and i think i actually heard him say " you will take me where I want". :no: Round 2 goes to Snickers. I will not give up!!!! The force is strong in this one but I must prevail!!
 
I'm reading this thread with a little bit of dread... We a have a HUGE, fenced backyard so once we moved here the entire grass area became Miko's bathroom... Now that I've lived through a few months of cringing everytime someone heads out to the grass and yelling "watch where you step!" (we do poop collection every couple of days... but it's a big area and sometimes things get missed), I've realized that I want to establish a "potty area".

The backyard is completely fenced, but then there is an additional fence that separates the grass area from the concrete patio area. Btw the concrete and then fence to the grass is a 5ft wide by 30ft long dirt area (I'm not sure what the previous owner had in mind for it... it's really a nothing/useless area). I'm thinking about putting down some kind of covering (gravel, mulch, pavers...) and teaching the dogs to use that area for their business. However, I don't know what to try because Miko with ONLY go on grass.

Both of their habits are so set, I'm not sure if it's going to work.

Miko - only goes on grass and off-leash (we can go for an hour long walk and he doesn't pee once)

Tasha - only goes on grass and will go on- or off-leash, but she clearly prefers on-leash (which was how Miko used to be until we moved here and he got used to going in the yard whenever he wanted.

Any suggestions on what, other than grass, they might like to go potty on and how to send the message that I want them to go there from now on? (Do I really have to move blades of grass and poop logs?) :uhoh:
