In the path of hurricane Irene:Owners, dogs, your location

Good news: My DH made it into work safely! Did you know that TV employees are considered 'essential personnel'?

It's still pretty gusty and damp, but thankfully I am not near any rivers, lakes, or oceans so no flooding concerns. Other areas are definitely in trouble, as the flood waters are still rising and whole neighborhoods are partially underwater already.

Now to watch the idiot maintenance workers go up onto the roof of the building using a single extension ladder in the wind with a chainsaw to start getting a tree off the neighboring building...... very stupid and dangerous right now!!

Glad to hear all have made it through safely. I have been watching the weather channel and you sure are getting some wicked rain and flooding up that way.
I have seen some crazy people over the last 24 hours out and about in that weather. Saw a couple walking their dog looked like a flat coated retriver in knee deep water- just stupid. Not to mention the ones I saw driving around in a hurricane in Va. beach.
I know it was not as bad as it could of been but for that center pressure she was bad news. Hope it all continues to be safe for everyone in our forum family.

Here is a picture of the river by our house....we are above this, but there is a dam above that is about to break. The Army Corp of engineers is assessing it right now. So scary. The concrete is the road/bridge. The building in the back is for our local playing fields. Someone parked their car there...not good.

We a mostly good here. Lost power at 7am. Which was to be expected. The power line infrastructure here is almost bordering on 3rd world nation :). Lol. Everyone lost atleast one tree or part of a tree here. I went or attempted to get to my beach at the end of my road. That was a no go since it was impossible with downed trees. I was told we would have power hopefully in a few days :'(. That part I'm no happy about. But that is just an inconvenience otherwise nothing a chainsaw and rake wont fix:)

Hudson County, like Randi. Thankfully there wasn't too much flooding here. Just a little leak in the basement, but nothing major. Stay safe everyone!!!

Keep us posted -- I sure hope the town isn't swamped! What town are you in??

All in all, this storm has turned out much better than original expectations, but I'm very glad that officials were on the side of caution and had people prepare. So far seems like everyone has stayed safe.

I've been tracking this storm on the weather maps and it is huge! We are even feeling its effects in Eastern Ontario. The wind has been howling all day. We bailed from the cottage on the St. Lawrence early this morning, but I have to tell you that just getting from the cottage to the marina (normally a 5 minute drive) was like crossing Lake Ontario in bad conditions. The waves were flying right over the bow of the boat. Even the boys in their crate were nervous.

As we passed by, we saw a big ocean barge go down the American Channel. It was splashing bow waves 30 feet into the air at least!

Docking the boat was a treat with easterly winds pushing us off the dock everytime. Fortunately, we had dock neighbours. Even at that, it took 2 tries to dock the boat.

The boys made a bee-line from the boat to the car. Normally I have to coax them in!

Wind is still gusting about 50 km per hour. Not serious, but enough for me to put my sweatpants on for the first time this summer!

I'm writing this from our local McDonalds restaurant. We have not had power since noon yesterday. That means NO WATER! The pump won't run. We had stockpiled buckets and containers full, but the news is saying expect it to be out for up to 5 days. The land line phone won't work at all. The only good thing is that the outside temperatures are mild, so we are not sweltering.
I have a gas stove, so made a pot of soup yesterday. The 'frig is warming up.
I would like to leave and just go to the house in Maine, but I have to take my sister to the airport tomorrow. Then I am out of here. My husband left for work at 4:45am with 5 days change of clothes....he works for our power company.
The funny thing is, for the dogs, life remains exactly the same. They are happy running around and everthing seems normal to them.

We are good. Power and cable are back. Flooding is minimal and we lost about 4 big trees but they did not do any damage to anything.

I am in Clinton, NJ.

My parents in central NJ just got their power back. It's been out since Saturday night.

Missjennarygirl, I hope your power returns soon!
