Hi guys, I am elated to tell you that I was able to get Elizabeth Brinkley's dog Indy out of the Riverside Shelter today!! Elizabeth got all the paperwork sent to me and assigned me power of attorney. I went to the shelter and they released the dog to me. He has been neutered and Elizabeth is not happy about that considering she told them not to do that, but he's out and safe and temporarily housed with me. A breeder from OC will pick him up in the morning and keep him until Elizabeth can arrange for him to make the journey home to her. Here he is safe at last!!!

THAT is wonderful Dawn! While the neuter is not optimal, at least this boy can go home and rebuild a life with his own people. Great work on Indy's behalf Dawn!

That's great news. Thank you Dawn for being willing to help Indy go home to his people.

Great news! Very happy for Elizabeth. I just have to wonder why the shelter went ahead with neutering when there was a likelihood that some (perhaps many) of these dogs could have co-owners.

It's a protest because they did not want to release these dogs to anyone affiliated with their owner or in any way allow them to breed again or show again. That's my theory. Whole or altered, at least the dog is going to the best place (back home) to care for him and/or place him.

Remind me not to go too near any animal shelters. If they catch me, they're liable to neuter me too, before I can explain that I'm not a dog.

Very likely, Mignarda, very likely!

I will give kudos to this shelter for sending Indy home though. Great work, Dawn!

Thanks guys!! This baby is the sweetest ever. Obviously he hasn't been socialized. He doesn't even know his name. He is terrified of being leashed, but he wags his tail when I talk to him. Loves being petted. And even got a slight case of zoomies after a good poop. A real ambassador for our beloved breed! Luckily a breeder from the OC will pick him up tomorrow to keep him until Elizabeth can arrange to get him home. Otherwise I'd be head over heels in love and having a hard time letting him go.

Bless you, Dawn, for making this happen! Thank heaven Indy is out and safe with you. I know Elizabeth is very grateful to you and will be happy to have him back. He'll surely benefit from spending some time with you!

It's a shame these shelters think they have carte blanche to do whatever they want to anyone's dog. There's no oversight for them and I'm sure Elizabeth will deal with that issue separately. I wish her much luck and success with that effort. To perform surgery on dogs who are frightened and unsocialized before their ownership is even established is unforgivable.
