Is there a such thing as a ....?

I personally don't care if people ask if Meggie is a minature collie. Just a few years ago I didn't know what a sheltie was either. Then my grand-doggers stole my heart.

I just correct them and tell them she's a sheltie, the best breed ever!

I must agree they are the best breed ever..... love your dog too by the way !!!

I don't think there is such thing as a mini collie. Bailey does get it all the time though. However, a lot of people do seem to recognize that she is a sheltie. I'd say it's 50/50. I don't get mad. I just correct them. Shelties are not a common breed in the NYC

It used to bother me when people called Justice a mini collie but got over it. Then I got Ember, people have no idea what she is. :biggrin2: They will except that Justice and Diva are shelties but they argue with me about Ember. Like I wouldn't know what kind of dog I have.:rolleyes2:

Here's a great story. Some people bought a sheltie puppy (normal size) from a breeder, that only breeds shelties. When they took their new pup to the vet for their new puppy check-up, the vet tech tried to tell them their puppy was a collie. When they corrected her, she refused to believe them!

time to find a new vet lol

Someone who lives near me has a small British-line female Collie - and she is always getting asked if her dog is a Sheltie! Her dog isn't much bigger than Deska, but she is finer and has that flat nose. If you have a look at the UK lines, just like Shelties they are small and petite, so in comparison to the US and Canadian lines they can look like mini Collies. I just tell people Shelties are a cousin of the Collie, usually tho I get asked why my two are such different sizes.

PS - this is one of my fave pics (collie and sheltie)

Clancy is BIG so I get asked what he is all the time...because they aren't quite sure if he's a big sheltie or a small collie..LOL
Abby being bi black I get confused looks with her too..some people right a way think she's a bc..but then she really doesn't look like that either..people just don't think they come in different colors..LOL
We were in a obed. class with a guy with bootiful collies..almost every week he'd say to us..."If you didn't put your dogs in the dryer and shrink them...they'd look better"...ppfft LOL

MissSuzie, I didn't know what a Sheltie was until a few years ago either! My friend owns a Sheltie, and I fell in love ... hence, Wyatt and my now-obsession with Shelties! They are an amazing breed, and I do not think I will own a different breed in my future. I get somewhat offended by the "miniature Collie" comment, but I have to realize I was the person across the fence once before.

I think it may be worse when you have a merle. They often start asking if it's a collie, then Ausie. When I say Sheltie, sometimes I get blank stares and sometimes "Oh, right. Doh. But I've never seen one like that. What color is that?"

"Blue Merle." :uhoh:

"He's gorgeous. The only ones I have ever seen are the Lassie color."

"That's sable."

I've learned to let it all pass. Most folks are curious and well-intentioned, although some are clueless, so if they want to call Gus a mini-Collie I'm irked but OK.

That's what I always got asked, especially when I was out in public with my blue puppies. "Oh what a cute Aussie!"

It's like "....."

To the OP-no such thing as a miniature collie.
