Kip hurt his toe!!!

Awww, poor Kip! Hopefully this won't stay with him.
You can usually buy the vet wrap they use at pet stores, I'm in Canada but I've seen it at several stores. It may help keep the nail more stable (it's almost like a broken toe)...you could of course ask the vet for some especially if it hurts Kip to walk.
 
I suspected it was a ripped nail. I know how awful it is to hand them over to go into the vet by themselves - it was especially hard with puppy Meadow but she handled it like a trooper. Elijah was upset going by himself for his annual and shots, Faith knows the vet means TREATS galore so she actually likes going in and went in for her ultrasound with no issues. But it still bums me out not to be with them.

Hopefully he will not have lingering bad feelings about the vet. He should be OK in a couple more days, poor guy.

I have vet wrap - we use it on the livestock all the time. It occurred to me that he will probably chew the bandage off his foot. He always tries to eat band aids when I have one. Strange dog! I might still try it though.

I've always made vet trips fun for Kip, with lots of treats and favorite toys. He was doing great until the pandemic hit. He's had 3 pandemic era vet visits, and each time he gets more stressed out.

I think he is feeling better today, because he isn't limping as much. Maybe it is just the pain killer, but hopefully it is starting to heal. However Kip is a very unhappy Sheltie because I'm not letting him run and play and follow me around the farm. He alternates between acting depressed and just lying around, or going crazy and trying to get me to play because he has too much energy.

Yep, hard to keep a young pup down and calm. Especially since you do so much with him and he is so eager to please! Hoping everything heals up quickly and you both can get back to a normal life!
 
Kip was going sooo crazy tonight!! He is definitely feeling better. He was going back to his bad habit of trying to hump me constantly while I was making dinner....because he was so bored. I did some easy training that didn't require his back foot to keep him busy: relaxing on a mat + the 'Look at That' game.

He probably will remember unfortunately - these dogs don't seem to forget much. Brodie remembered our vet who he hadn't seen in a year - it was actually the vet tech, because that is who held him for shots. But you can help with that as well. Explain on the phone, have them mark it in his file, explain again to the tech if the drop at the door thing continues and provide treats for them to give him. Maybe even give them a little new toy that they can give to Kip after his visit so he sees the vet as fun stuff! My trainer says everything is always supposed to be left off with a positive - so try to end the visit with a BIG positive so it's something that overshadows the actual visit.
