Thanks everyone for your kind, thoughtful and supportive words of comfort. I know we have all been there and nothing really prepares you for the shock and pain.
Dr Pillsberry just called, she was Laddie's primary vet at Harper Vet Clinic. She agreed with Dr Courtney his hospice vet. His spleen ruptured causing internal bleeding. The cancer most likely attached to his liver and spleen causing the liver numbers to be elevated from his last bloodwork.
Hemangiosarcoma Symptoms
Your dog's spleen sits near the abdomen. Cancer of the spleen usually results from hemangiosarcoma, or cancer of the blood vessels. While this cancer can grow in other organs, the spleen is the most common site. Often, there is no sign of illness until the tumor ruptures, dumping blood into the abdomen. At that point, the dog might go into shock, collapse and die.
As Sharon said, there was no doubt or second guessing that it was time. It was unrecoverable.
Still in shock and morning.
Thanks again for everyone who posted their concern along Laddie's cancer journey.
Now he and Mr Chance are playing together at Rainbow Bridge. I look forward to being with them again one day.
