Layla Sable Lafferty died at home in the arms of her Mama, surrounded by her family. In her rich lifetime, she served as a member of the Red Cross Therapy Dog Pack at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for fifteen years, her proudest and most fulfilling role. Layla brought comfort to students and faculty at The Industrial College of the Armed Forces as well. In her career, she met the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan Band. Layla attended Sunday services at St. Peter’s Church, where she also helped with Children’s Chapel and Vacation Bible School. A seasoned traveler, Layla went Paris three times, where she opened both doors and hearts. She left the world a better place than she found it. Remember her with joy.

Layla holds a special place on Sheltie Nation, Chris, and will always be remembered here. She lived an amazing life but I know she leaves a huge hole in your life and heart. I wish you warm and happy memories of this very precious girl, until you see her again.

Fly free sweet Layla. You brought so much joy and love to so many and you will forever be held in all our hearts.

Chris, I am so sorry for your loss. You gave Layla the loving gift of letting her go when life became too hard for her, but I know that doesn't lessen the emptiness that her passing leaves behind. Hold tight to the years of wonderful shared memories and know that you too are held in our hearts. :hugs

Such a touching image of you and Layla. I know a piece of your heart and soul are shattered at Layla's loss.

We are blessed in this life with a sheltie that has such a profound impact. It makes the loss so much more difficult. Yet, we know, our would not have been the same without them in it.

Layla's contribution to this world was beyond measure. We will miss her as well. So many others were grateful to have been touched by her.
My heart goes out to you. You gave her the last gift of kindness. The most unselfish act possible for your sweet girl.

Blessing and virtual hugs to you. RIP Layla.

Layla will be missed but never forgotten. She lived an amazing life with an awesome Mom Layla will be remembered fondly, especially by her friends here at Sheltie Nation.
We will continue our prayers for you and your family. RIP Layla
