lying on side for grooming?

I think I forgot to mention that I often groom on my bed when the dogs are going into bedtime comatose mode anyway.

I spread a sheet on my bed and array my torture tools.....but I don't let the boys see I'm doing, otherwise, they won't come up on the bed at all! :gaahSo I have to be dodgy about setting up the torture bed!

I brush Zak with him laying on his side then I roll him over and do the other side, he is a very relaxed boy and loves the attention. Today I layed him on his back to get his chest and had his head in my lap- he did not want to get up- was so content.

My dogs see them as torture tools too :smile2: when one gets put one the grooming table the other will come by and tease then they'll go hide in another room and hope i forget to do them :biggrin2:
Both stand like rocks on the grooming table, but maybe I should try doing on my bed or somewhere else and see if it works

grooming outside...

I groomed my boy on the (carpeted) floor, on his side. He just laid there, limp as a rag, and let out an occasional contented sigh. When I was done with one side, I gently rolled him over to the other side. His face would then become engulfed in his chest fur, but he patiently waited for me to brush it aside with my hands.

Hi, I groom my shelties on a table in the garden, outside the house. I wonder if grooming them inside could be a problem because of the fur all over the sofa and forniture and everything....I have even thinking in buying a special coat for me that reppeal the fur and to keep my clothes cleaner alfer grooming them.

They don't want to lay and I think it's because of the high level of the table....but my back is better in that way, sometimes they lay because they get tyred of grooming them soo long, often more than half an hour!

I wish to do it at the sofa, comfortable and calmed, enjoying the moment, but I won't do it because higienic questions....

I bought a grooming table for Trace, but for some reason ended up usually brushing him on the floor. He didn't actually enjoy it, but didn't fuss either.

I have just started getting 11 1/2 week old Baker used to the feel of a brush. Not sure which is best to start with: pin or slicker? I did manage to clip his nails for the first time tonight...yippee! The little stinker has four white feet - except for a tiny spot of brown by one toe = 1 black toenail! :( At least it's only one, so I can trim the rest & just use them as a guide for the black one.

I also took the dremel to Toby's nails - guess it was spa day for the boys. Baker was very interested in what I was doing. Hoping he learns from big bro that dremel is a good thing!

Ha! Just groomed Cubby on the bathroom counter. I have nipped off the toenails once. I should do it again. I will be giving Melli a comb-through too. guess it IS spa night.

What kind of brush do you use for Cubby! They are not the same size at all, but coats look similar

Nails done -- we have ONE black too! Ugh!

I am using a comb on Cubby at this point as his coat is thin fuzz. I also have a pin without the pin tips by All Systems that I will be using on him. Melli usually gets the undercoat rake because her coat is more like an Aussie coat than a sheltie one and that worked great on my Aussies. Not sure if Cubby will be fluffy cottony or hair and whispy in the end. I am prepared either way as the Persian cats and Aussies brought me an arsenal of brushes and combs.

Thanks - maybe I'll switch to the comb for Baker at this point in his fuzziness. He might tolerate that better than the slicker.
