Maia, Chinook and three sheep!

Well, we missed the ducks by 5 minutes! My sister had my dogs and was to bring them to the farm because I worked late, but she got there later than I did! Oh well, another time. But they did get to herd sheep again, but this time off leash! Here is Maia's video! (Chinook's is coming)

It's so good to see your sheltie herd sheep--she looks beautiful. It's a lot easier to understand why we can't get them to stop chasing cars after you see them in their element. Fantastic!!

and here is Chinook! You can see, he is a lot more confident and is actually trying to 'herd' them, vs Maia, who likes to chase them!:lol::lol: She's still young, but the instructor was very impressed with both of them and thinks that they can both pass their first herding test!

Go Chinook and Maia ! Love the videos. I'll have to watch them again tonight when I am home and can turn up the volume. Snap barks in the office and gives me away.....

He almost took you out, didn't he?! It's a good thing you were paying close attention. Herding looks like a lot of fun! It also sounds like you had a lot of people who went with you taking the video. Is this just for fun or for future competition?

The past two weeks were organized by WASSA (Winnipeg Area Shetland Sheepdog Association) that I belong to. There were around 15 shelties there each week. It was mainly to see if our shelties liked it and had an 'instinct' for it (and not all did enjoy it or were interested in the sheep). Faye, the instructor, also has shelties, and she is holding an "All Breed Herding Trail and Test" this September and she also does lessons too. I am not sure if I will put my two for the test yet - it is rather expensive and right now I have to watch my money. Next year however, I think I will. They both really liked it and had the 'instinct' for it. Faye thinks, with no classes to their names right now, both of mine could pass the first test, but I still think I will wait.
