Max - great news

Is Molly on low fat or regular food. The nutrients are important. Hope he loses weight without cutting back anymore.

Mally is on regular food. The vet did not want us to go to the low fat food.
I thought with the low fat Mally could still eat the half cup twice a day amount and the doctor said regular food, one third cup twice day.

Thank you for your concern. I appreciate.

Cheering madly for Max! What fabulous news!

My little Max is also overweight. He's just come off of 2.5 months of heartworm treatment and he's porky. And now he's got bursitis in his shoulder so we're trying to get him some relief there.

So anything you want to share about the weight loss program would be appreciated!

If he get cortisone for his shoulder, it makes them very hungry. If you can talk to a nutritionist, that's who our specialist conferred with about my Max. Maybe you can lower his fat content in his food without sacrificing his nutrients. I also give Max milk thistle, probiotics and several other that is for his pancreas and gall bladder. But those two are very good for Max immune system.

No cortisone. He's actually getting laser therapy on his elbows (where the arthritis is) and while he's only had one treatment, I think he actually could feel it! The doc said not to expect a change after the first 2 but I could tell that he immediately felt better. How funny is that?

That is such good news, cortisone is not a drug of choice, but laser has to be faster and better for your pup.

Oh no, I did not mean for you to give Max any less than the third cup twice a day.
I agree with you. Sounds like you are already feeding Max the perfect amount for weight loss. I was feeding our Mally 1/2 cup twice a day. Mally was just put on this 1/3 cup twice a day amount. I did ask our vet if the third cup twice a day was enough nourishment for Mally and he said it was.

Hoping both our boys are now able to loose the weight.

How much does your sheltie weigh? Harper has just started to balloon a bit, she is off the homemade diet that she was on. Her ideal weight is 18 lbs. She is a bit over that and I am cutting back now, on her dry food.

Kate

Mally (Malachi) weighed 35 pounds at his last vet appointment. Dr. would like to see him at 30-32 pounds. (this would be way easier on his joints)
Note: Mally is on the tall side.

Thanks Denise. You know, I must be feeding Harper too much. She is food oriented, all my shelties have been and I also had been giving her 1/2 cup of the Fromm's dry. It is lower fat and protein but I see that I will have to cut her back a bit.

Oh she is going to complain!!

Hugs,
Kate
