MISSING: Sheltie in Winchester, KY - FOUND SAFE!

I cannot believe I have to write this post. I was going back to the house today, and Monet jumped out of my car over my shoulder when I went to put his leash on. He dashed off, and I tried to get him to run back to me, he followed me part way, but then he was gone. I'm working on flyers right now, but he's out in the farmland somewhere. With him being so shy, I'm not sure anyone will be able to catch him. He's not micro-chipped, I hadn't been able to do it yet. We have been searching the last 5 hours to try and find him.

I'm just put in ad in the newspaper. I haven't even had him for two weeks yet. I can't lose my puppy this soon. :(

Here is what we have done so far - We searched the farmland high and low with binoculars, driving a 15-20 mile radius. Then, we met with some of the neighbors nearby, who were all working their farms and while they saw dogs, they were nothing like him. I printed out 125 flyers and passed them out down through our road and two connecting roads. Also put one up at the local Save-A-Lot.

We are bordered by a Parkway and the interstate, and he's terrified of traffic, so hopefully he is limited where he goes on two sides. And there is a very deep creek on one side, I'm not sure he'd cross that unless he went over the road.

I called the animal shelter and put an ad in the local newspaper. I will be hitting up the newspapers in Lexington. He will have a facebook page up soon through the local animal shelter, and it will be cross posted to some other sites. I have an ad on petfinder, and on craigslist. I'll be checking religiously to find if someone has listed him to sell.

I would love to use findtoto.com and other paid websites like that, but unfortunately I am between jobs and money is beyond tight. I'm hoping the flyers in the mailboxes would help just like an automated call.

I did get one phone call earlier, but it was for a collie type dog that was seen last week. Monet was lost at 10 am this morning. I am numb. I don't know what to do. I just want my boy back.

Prayer for Monet

Dear St. Francis,
You who are the caretaker of all creatures, please turn your eye toward a little Sheltie. Monet is lost. Calm his fears, gentle his anxiety, and lead him back to his family who love him so. Guide the searchers so that soon, through your tender intervention, the Lord will lead him to safety.
In His name we ask,
Amen

Thanks so much Chris, your prayer brought me to tears. I really hope that St. Francis can steer my boy home. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that Monet is missing... I'm hoping for his speedy return. It sounds like you're on the right track already in your search, but hopefully you can get some good tips from the Forum community.

Thinking of you both...

Thanks so much, I have seen the pets found here and I believe in the power of the kind people on this forum!

I am visiting local vets tomorrow, and I will pass out flyers there, and in Mount Sterling. The trainer at Petsmart where I have my puppy class is going to start networking as well. I'm working on making him a facebook page. I really hope that someone will find him.

I just keep hoping he will be at my back door. I miss having him at my feet, chewing on his Flossie. In the past two weeks, he's completely, irreversibly changed my life. I can't imagine him not being a part of it.

I am so sorry to hear this. I would be frantic. There are many great suggestions on the other missing posts you may want to read through them. Many have said kentucky fried chicken placed in a trap works well. Can you borrow one from your local humane society? I will be praying for Monet's safe return. Please let us know when the facebook page is set up so we can share with all our friends and get it out to as many people as possible.

Here is his facebook page:

I'm not sure what other information should go on there? It's an open facebook page. I have a have-a-hart trap, I'm not sure if it's big enough (we've caught full size coons in it though). I'm not sure the best place to put it? Once I figure out a location, it will be out and baited with some KFC. I have his crate on the back porch with some of his wet food out there. I know its a long shot.

Thank you all so much. I'm beyond frantic, searching left and right for any tidbit of information I can get that might help me bring him home. I can't do anything while it is dark, except search online. I was out for 8 hours today in the rain, looking for him and then putting flyers out. I really hope we can bring him home.

I am so sorry about your boy. We will all be praying that he's found safe and sound soon. I would try putting your have-a-heart trap baited with chicken in the farmland where you think he might be. Tomorrow if you can get another trap or two and put them out there as well it would probably be a good idea.

It sounds like you're doing everything possible. You might try calling your local TV stations to see if they'll show his picture. Our stations here do that frequently for lost dogs.

Someone else here suggested giving flyers to the local schools and bus companies, since children frequently spot things adults might miss.

Good luck...we're praying for the best possible news about Monet!

I will definitely start hitting up the local schools and bus stations. I want to look into the news stations, but I'm not sure who to try and call or email there.

I will have to find and set the trap in the morning. I will call and see if animal control has any others I can use.
