MISSING: Sheltie in Winchester, KY - FOUND SAFE!

Thanks so much!

Katherine, it's what kills me the most. I purchased a seat belt harness, and he actually wore it for the first time, though the first part of the ride home. But, he tried his darndest to chew through it and the seat belt, so I finally gave up because I didn't like the way it sat on him. If I hadn't removed it at the gas station, he would have been fine. I will definitely have him wear it from now on.

I even had him wear it around the house, but the way it sat, he just didn't like it.

Check out the forum for "Other Equipment." I started a thread on "Automobile Etiquette/Safety." There's some interesting info there.

CONGRATS on your baby being in your arms again. You were in my private prayers last night ;-).

Go figure !!! Given the benefit of hindsight, I'm sure you'll figure out what the best solution is for you. Glad the separate thread was started on this topic !

I just learned of an awesome idea about keeping dogs safe when opening a door to the house that does not have a fence and I thought I would share it. My friend told me this today. She has a friend that had a sheltie bolt when the door was opened. Since then her friend did this and it works great! (her sheltie did come back when she yelled btw but she will not take that chance again)

She had her friend install a baby gate inbetween the storm door and the inside door! That way, when someone comes to the door, and you open the door, the babygate prevents the dog from sneaking between your legs and getting out accidentally. She use a babygate that had a latch and opened like the one below so you can easily let people in and out. I think it is a great idea if you do not have a fence!

I think this would be a great idea for you to use with Monet so he does not run off accidentally again. :)

Thanks so much guys! And thanks for the suggestion on the automobile etiquette. He's been wearing it much better lately, and I will definitely check it out.

That sounds like a great idea Ania - except Monet can jump 4 ft. A baby gate is no obstacle to him. :( He's like a fuzzy little spring board.

I really hope Angus comes home too. I read through all 55 pages of it when Monet was missing, and I was so sad to reach the end and there was no Angus. :(

Slowly we are learning more about where Monet disappeared to. Turns out he must have run a circle, because he ended up to the left of our property about 2 miles away. The neighbor called on Thursday, telling me her husband saw him. He said it "looked like a dog but moved like a cat, and looked absolutely terrified", and fit his description perfectly. My heart just about stopped when she told me he narrowly missed getting hit by a car on our road. He ended up jumping into a culvert at the last second. I just don't know what I would do... I'm so glad St. Francis helped him find his way home safely.

that is a cool idea- my entry has another doorway very close to the front door and I put a baby gate there. I can open the front door from the other side of the gate or stand by the front door with the pups on the other side of the gate. Nobody has ever tried to jump it- thankfully
I actually put it up to keep Happy the houdini dog from running out the front door- beagle mix with no recall once he hit the cat scents

I missed your original post of when he went missing, and posted. But I read now he is back home, safe.

I am so happy for you,but I cannot imagine the frantic time you went thru.So glad for the happy ending.

I have a gate just like that that I used for a long time with my pups. It was wonderful and worth the extra money. It was also expandable so it could fit in a variety of hallway widths.
