Monty is coughing/choking almost none stop

Darren, look up Tularemia - it is a rabbit bacterial disease which can be passed to dogs and can result in cough and lung issues. Happened to run across RHDV2 mentioned in a Facebook post not concerning you or Monty but it is a bacteria that affects rabbits that can be passed to dogs.

Hope you are well.....

Oh Darren, I'm so sorry I missed all this going on, I've just been getting on to do an update - and managing to fall asleep at the computer a couple of times so I imagine you're pretty exhausted too.Thank you so much for taking the time to check in on Tully. Mind, maybe it's just as well I didn't know so I wasn't worried about Monty too.

Are they letting you visit with him? I can't imagine what it would be like not to be able to. I do think it helped Tully a lot.

That is great news he's barking, gosh he's like a male version of Tully, these little buggers demanding to be let out! On the plus side that means he must be able to breathe.

Any chance of visiting a specialist once you have him back? After this debacle I'd want a second opinion.

No need to apologise Caro, you've had more than enough to deal with on your end with Tully and little Kismet!
I've not been able to visit yet because they don't allow anyone into the critical care ward. Hopefully when he comes out soon I can go and see him. The next nearest vet to me is about 3hrs away but I think I will get him checked out there as well just for peace of mind.

Sorry for the poor updates everyone, I've been passing out and not thinking straight, I'm so tired lol. They said he is responding best when they are treating it as a severe allergic reaction so I think that is what they are going to go with as the problem. They've never mentioned Covid and I'm not sure how it works with dogs but I will mention it when they call.

Thanks Sandy. I've just had a look and apparently that is another thing that does not exist in the UK so I think we are safe from that. I will mention it though just to be safe!

Once again a big thank you to everyone for the support! I don't think I could have coped without you all and I know Monty would have felt all the love! You've all been amazing so THANK YOU!!!

Gosh Darren don't apologize! I know you are exhausted physically and mentally. I just checked in here before I am off to bed myself, with full confidence in the morning I will see a good report on Monty. We are all only too happy to be as supportive as we can from afar. It's what makes this forum so special.
Get as much rest as you can, must be very early AM your time right now. :hugs

I agree! Stop apologizing! I have been known to not talk to concerned friends for days when I’m caring for a critically ill farm animal. I just pour all my energy into saving the animal and can’t deal with anything else.

Of course we are all anxious for Monty news, but I will try too be patient and like Margi said, no news is good news. It’s bedtime in Hawaii now, so I’ll check back in the morning.

I've just had theee best phone call. Little Monty is out of critical and they think the worst is behind him!
Monty was reunited with Mr Broccoli this morning and the nurse said she has never seen anything like it. She walked in with Mr Broccoli and she says he acted like he was seeing his long lost owner lol. He was crying with excitement, took him, licked him and lay cuddling him . I said that I'd tried telling them it was a special bond haha.
All going well I get to visit the little guy in a few hours, although only one person can go and I'm not allowed to touch him due to virus rules.

They are still having a hard time working out what caused it and will have to wait for more blood tests to come back from the lab. It's still being treated as an allergy but if it's something else they are concerned it come back. One step at a time though.

Darren what awesome news!! Mr. B. will help Monty heal much quicker and once he gets home he will feel so much better. Glad he is on the mend and from Coop and I in Ontario all the best to everyone, hope things return to normal quickly! Cheers!! xx

I fully understand, it is just so physically and mentally exhausting. So sorry you can't see him, that must be awful.

Do you have blood results? Did they test his leukocytes for an infection? Also, what food is he on - did they test for nutritional DCM, fluid on the lungs is a symptom of that.

Sorry, your head is probalby already spinning. Just with Tully being so sick all the time...
