I fretted over this also, but it is #9 in the ingredient list, and a very low percentage of the entire food. After loads of investigating (and not wanting to go raw or cooked) I felt this version of the Pro Plan (Lamb and Oatmeal) has limited ingredients, no wheat, soy or corn, and so was the best choice given it was also recommended by our vet. The ingredients list Darren posted for the first food he tried has peas, lentils and pea protein all higher up on the list, and no grains at all in the formula.

You are correct! There are many SN folks who do use Pro Plan. Both my boys were on their puppy formula when they came to us. I know many here are very happy with Pro Plan. I opted for Fromm and am happy with my choice. Fromm Adult Gold has no peas.

Thanks everyone, I didn't realize how complicated feeding can get haha. Hopefully Monty likes the samples when they arrive and I can move him on to that. Feeding him has been a nightmare the past few years as he had spent his first 3yrs (before coming to live with me) only eating a very cheap and poor quality soft food. He wouldn't touch anything else for so long and then when I finally got him to try even a tiny bit of something else he would get instant diarrhea for days :rolleyes2:.

I finally moved him to a better brand of soft food as he just wouldn't touch any kind of hard food (despite chewing the legs off many a plastic toy :rolleyes2:). My vet had been pushing for ages to get him onto a kibble and I kept trying with no luck until he finally started eating AVA....and with no runny poops. As mentioned that then had a large recall so I didn't want to keep him on that and wanted to try to make sure he went onto a really good quality food.....and here we are haha.

lol may have made my head spin but I learned a lot
I've just checked the "Analytical Constituents" (surely they could have used something smaller haha) and the chicken is 22% protein and the beef food is 21%. Hopefully the little guy likes one or I may just cry

Now I wait for whether his body likes it...it's looking good so far haha

Score!! So very happy to see this Darren! It will make feeding him easier, and since he's off the milk too, you won't need to bring a fridge for camping anymore.... that is, unless you need it for beverages....;)

Haha if I don’t pick up the bowls right away Finnie will lay down and lick them forever :ROFLMAO:! Of course my mom sees this and says awwwww he’s still hungry! Lol I know a piggy doggie when I see one...all of mine would be 20 pounds overweight if I wasn’t careful!

Nice to see Monty enjoying his new food Darren! Seems like even Monty can change for the better!
