Montys new kibble

Ok, everyone I have a question ❓ I have read that there a few Pro Plan users so this thread got me reading again. In the Pro Plan ingredients I read that peas are an ingredient, is that not and issue? (Please stop my brain going in overload). :)

I fretted over this also, but it is #9 in the ingredient list, and a very low percentage of the entire food. After loads of investigating (and not wanting to go raw or cooked) I felt this version of the Pro Plan (Lamb and Oatmeal) has limited ingredients, no wheat, soy or corn, and so was the best choice given it was also recommended by our vet. The ingredients list Darren posted for the first food he tried has peas, lentils and pea protein all higher up on the list, and no grains at all in the formula.

You are correct! There are many SN folks who do use Pro Plan. Both my boys were on their puppy formula when they came to us. I know many here are very happy with Pro Plan. I opted for Fromm and am happy with my choice. Fromm Adult Gold has no peas.

Thanks everyone, I didn't realize how complicated feeding can get haha. Hopefully Monty likes the samples when they arrive and I can move him on to that. Feeding him has been a nightmare the past few years as he had spent his first 3yrs (before coming to live with me) only eating a very cheap and poor quality soft food. He wouldn't touch anything else for so long and then when I finally got him to try even a tiny bit of something else he would get instant diarrhea for days :rolleyes2:.

I finally moved him to a better brand of soft food as he just wouldn't touch any kind of hard food (despite chewing the legs off many a plastic toy :rolleyes2:). My vet had been pushing for ages to get him onto a kibble and I kept trying with no luck until he finally started eating AVA....and with no runny poops. As mentioned that then had a large recall so I didn't want to keep him on that and wanted to try to make sure he went onto a really good quality food.....and here we are haha.

Now, that is a company I'd do business with! Super of them to offer you some samples. Those both look like great options and I hope Monty likes one of them. I'd feed my dogs either one of these. Sorry we all made your head spin, it really is overwhelming when all we want to do is have a good quality food for our dogs' health and longevity!!!! Good luck and let us know if Mr. Monty deigns to like one of the new ones!

Just double check the total percentage of protein isn't higher than about 28 percent. This is under the "Analytical Constituents" column (love that name - here, it's "Guaranteed Analysis".

lol may have made my head spin but I learned a lot
I've just checked the "Analytical Constituents" (surely they could have used something smaller haha) and the chicken is 22% protein and the beef food is 21%. Hopefully the little guy likes one or I may just cry
