More Mouth!

Teddy has a lump on his right side lower abdomen close to his rear leg and in the center there is scab over an indentation I am hopeful that it's just pus filled but I found out that Monday there was another small dog that might have got him after talking. to my wife who was walking him at the time. I found it early this morning while he was getting brushed. He is not paying any attention to it so I don't know.
I guess my beef is I have use this Vet for 24 years have used the emergency number 3 times in that time and they offered me tomorrow or the directions to the ER which is 65 to 70 miles away.

I don't blame you for being upset, Ron. I hope Teddy is OK. It sounds like he might at least need an antibiotic. I'm very careful not to abuse the "emergency" privilege so that when I really need it, they get me in. It sounds like you're the same. I think a complaint to your vet directly is in order. Let us know how Teddy is doing, please!

Teddy is doing ok, it looks like it was a cyst filled with puss and a few calcium granules.
But these young people think us old farts are stupid or senile. I got the young new Vet and assistant.
First they took him and then brought him back because there wasn't anything wrong with his leg So I reached over and pointed to the lump. 2nd they came out and asked if they could aspirate it. I asked how do you know what it is if you don't 3rd came out and asked if they could shave the hair around the wound. I finally said do you want me to go back and do it
In the old days, I would say fix it. And I could ask questions while the Vet worked with my animal in the same room.
We have an ointment to put on his booboo.and some oily skin shampoo Not one of our better Vet visits.

OK this made me laugh, just like a TV sitcom. I mean, REALLY? I don't blame you at all for what you said, Ron!

Thank God my vet does all her exams with us in the room. We were there for Meadow's recheck of her liver values and the phenobarbital levels. She has to be seen every 6 months for this. Anyway we took all the dogs and she ended up giving Elijah his two missed vaccines (from when we found out his GB problem, she didn't want to vax him then) and she also consulted about poor Faith's joint issues getting worse. And in between doling out cookies to all 3.

Ron, I have to admit I laughed reading about your offer to go back and do it yourself. After all, we have decades of experience! And we know our dogs! I really dislike the trend in corporate vets (don't know if yours is one) of taking the dog away to treat it. Mine, thankfully, still treats with me there for most things. We have to be the advocates for our dogs and we can't do that if we can see what's happening.

I'm glad Teddy is OK and very glad you were able to get him seen. I hope his bump will improve quickly and this will be behind you! Give him a pat and a cookie for us.

That is something that started around here during wuhan. Slight shift back to me staying the dog. With Spitfire it really matters as he hates the vet and is MUCH happier when he can hide by me.

I can imagine your frustration Ron! The only time we weren’t allowed to be in the room was during Covid…if it was still like that I’d go elsewhere! But then I live in a city with at least 20 vet clinics, not everyone has that option.
If you can’t be in the room how are you supposed to show them what’s wrong? It’s like examining the dog with a blindfold on!

Lacey had her dental today and I'll be picking her up soon. I don't know what it is with my dogs and mouths, my vet said he's never seen a more challenging mouth than hers. He took out 9 teeth and said he could have taken more but he didn't want her under anesthesia any longer. He doesn't know if this will relieve her chewing discomfort. Fingers are crossed. The next step would be a specialist, and she's nearly 14 so I don't want to keep putting her through procedures. Her mast cell surgery was barely two months ago.

I wish we'd had a definitive answer, but it will be a wait and see as she heals. More good thoughts, please.....

Will cross our fingers and send good thoughts and prayers for you both. Hopefully he got the tooth that was giving her the pain. Please give her a pat from both of us. Teddy says that she deserves a cookie per tooth when she feels better. :)
Hugs to you both..
Teddy and Ron
