My dear Laddie...

Thank you all for caring. Sheltie Nation is the best place for support during these unimaginably difficult times. I woke up this morning just hoping it was a bad dream, only to be hit with the realaztion my time with him is limited. My heart is just shattered. I am comforted by that fact that he has pain meds on board and seems less uncomfortable.

When I went through cancer with Gavin last year (and it never ends), It turned out not to be bone cancer but a more treatable soft tissue cell sarcoma, but I remember the waiting for 3 days to find that out. I was a wreck. Laddie has no idea what is going on, so just do everything you can to keep him happy and comfortable. Gavin gets more beach visits now, since it makes me happy to see him happy :) And lots more hugs.....it got us through the radiation and all the meds, he would sleep on me on the couch. That's how I know he felt not right since he doesn't normally do that for longer than a few minutes.

I know there are tons of bone cancer support sites, I remember one called tripaws I think. Obviously the dogs had usually had an amputation but the most common reason for the amputation was bone cancer. and amputation was usually only to buy another 6-12 months. Yes, I spent tons of time on dog cancer sites...

I have even tried fasting Gavin for 3 days, it is supposed to recycle immune cells. Of course, I did it with him. He wasn't happy about it at meal times but was OK other than those times.

huge Hugs for both of you!

I am so very sorry to hear this news, Gloria. This is such a difficult path to walk with our precious pups when we know their time is limited. As hard as it is, try to enjoy the time you have with Laddie. Shelties are stoic and he will ignore how he feels as much as he can, and the painkillers will help. Take your cue from him. Give Laddie a pat from me, and big hugs to you.

I am so sorry for about your precious Laddie. Cherish the time that you have left with him. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

After days of non stop crying I am coming to terms with Laddie's diagnosis.

I really appreciate all the kind words of support from everyone. It is all so traumatic for both of us.

As I was researching on the web I came across this site that helps me understand the journey we are now on. Others might find it useful.

Oh Gloria, my heart breaks for you - it's an agony getting a diagnosis like this for your beloved boy. With Ally, we tried so hard just to keep her comfortable and do the special little things that she enjoyed, like time on the bed with us, belly rubs, etc. Truly, it's the time you spend with him now that will be so meaningful to you. The caregiving will draw you even closer.

Laddie is so lucky you are his mom and will do what you can to keep his quality of life up as long as you can. Many hugs to you both. We are all here to support you and so many of us have recently gone through this life stage. It's a bugger.

Gloria, I'm just catching up on what I missed after being offline for a number of days and am so saddened to read this. I hope you enjoy every possible moment you have with Laddie.
