My pup won't eat by herself

I agree, it must get pretty boring if its the same food and same texture all the time. My female was picky about her food -esp when its dry - so my dogs only get dry food in the morning. In summer they get a bone instead of dried food to keep their weight down. I am one of those who scatter dry food outside, or hide it around the house for them to hunt, or put it in a treat bottle - just to give them more variety.

Seems to help, doesn't it? Even Cadbury got fed up with dry food and he's a lab for crying out loud! :lol:

He is now on the BARF diet, but I keep some dry food for putting in his activity ball - best rainy day game there is :wink2:

.. by training you! :wink2: We've dealt with this before and found that you just have to remove you from the equation. Feeding your pup in his cage is probably the easiest way to do this. As everyone has mentioned, he'll certainly eat when he gets hungry enough. They can sure be stubborn, though, can't they? :lol:

Yes, you've described my recent situation exactly! I'm working on training him out of it. He gets two chances to eat. Once while Indy is still in his crate eating. And once more, next to me. If he walks the 2nd time, it's gone. Yep, I know...he's got me trained and I'm steeling myself to just removing the bowl as soon as he walks away, and not giving it back. But he's still not 100% well. (Sucker!) :rolleyes2:
 
With my current pup I went through the various dog foods, trying to find one that she would eat. Kind of like Goldilocks. Some were too hard, some had too many weird things, and some just didn't smell right. What really changed her was I started putting a teaspoon of wet food in with her dry.

What I ended up with was the Merricks Wingalings. It's a soupy stew type mix with cooked chicken wings. I throw in a teaspoon with a little hot water from the hot dispenser tap. Then she gets a 1/4 cup of dry. She slurps it down. Even does the happy dance when I ask if she wants her "crunch and munch." They also make a canned puppy formula. The dry is Innova. But it seems like the canned is what cinched the deal. I did try the canned Wellness, but she doesn't like the pate texture. Be aware that the Merrick's is very rich. So very little goes a long way.
 
Guess she just got tired of that game and moved on :wink2: Or, she decided that you were thoroughly trained in how to feed on command :biggrin2: Wonder what she'll do next?
