My Senior is Seizing

Dropped my 15 year old, Wendell, off at the groomer this morning.

One hour later, she called me at work and asked me to pick him up. Within an hour, he had pooped, peed, and vomited three times in his crate. I rushed over, picked him up and took him directly to my vet.

He vomited again on the 2 mile ride to the vet.

Once at the vet, he acted like his normal, goofy self. So, we are thinking he might have had some seizures.

I left him at the vet's office for observation, since I had to return to work and wouldn't be able to monitor him.

I hate to think about it, but am starting to realize that this may be a part of his life now, for however long that may be.

Anyone else experience seizures in their otherwise healthy Seniors?

I only had one girl start seizures in her senior years, but she was already ill. In my experience, it can be a sign of something else at that age. I hope your vet can give you an answer as to why this is happening now.

Sending good wishes and pats to Wendell. Please let us know what happens.

I'll keep good thoughts for your sweet Wendell and more good thoughts that your vet will be able to diagnosis quickly so you will be able to help your old sweet soul sooner. As Ann said, please keep us posted.

No experience with that. But I really hope this isn't something serious. At his age, anything is a worry. Let us know what the vet says...:fl Prayers for Wendell tonight.

I've had a couple of pets have seizures in their senior years. With one of my shelties it turned out to be a vitamin deficiency and I needed to supplement his diet and he was fine after that. Unfortunately it was so long ago I can't remember which vitamin it was, it may have been one of the Vit Bs. Talk to your vet about it, I know it took quite a while to get a diagnosis of the vitamin deficiency. Might be worthwhile looking into a multivitamin just in case, but again, worth asking your vet about it.

Might be that he is stressed by grooming. Sometimes stress can trigger a seizure. You should call your vet and see what they suggest and monitor for any staring or lip smacking or mouth working. Prayers for you all.

My parents had a dog that had seizures. Ended up being a result of Cushing disease.

I am praying that you get some answers soon and that everything is ok.

Wendell is home with me now. He spent all day at the vet's office with no more episodes.

Blood work was drawn, and we should have the results tomorrow.

He ate all of his dinner, but has no spunk. I think today's seizures, or whatever happened to him, have totally drained him.

He has made no effort to follow me up or down the stairs. I will carry him upstairs to his chaise lounge in my bedroom tonight, if necessary. (Yes, he is the only dog in my house that has a full piece of furniture that is HIS!)

At 15 1/2 years old, I know that anything can happen, quite suddenly.

Will keep you posted, and thank you for the nice thoughts and prayers.

Both you are Wendell are in my thoughts and prayers.

Glad you will continue to keep us posted. Thank you.

ps My Mally sends out to Wendell a WOOF-WOOF-WOOF (feel better soon)
