Natalie has a bladder infection?

If there was a discharge then it is probably an open pyometra - better prognosis although we would be having the dog done immediately and not waiting. I will be looking eagerly to getting the report that Natalie sailed through her spay and is A okay.
For everyone else out there, it is not a normal or common thing to have a bitch get a UTI just because she has been in season. It is pretty easy though to have a metritis. Pyometra is not something that only older females get and often has little or no symtoms until it is well established especially in a closed pyometra. I have seen it in a dog as young as 9 months.

The breeder suggested puppy vaginitis as well. Hopefully it is nothing as serious as pyometra but the vet can't be sure until he does the spay on Thursday. He didn't feel it was necessary at this point to take X-Rays as she is now on an ABX and is being spayed. He wanted to wait for the couple of days to give the strong ABX a chance to work before putting her under. Poor thing. She doesn't understand why she has to be in her crate today, although with the meds she seems to be feeling better. Went right outside this afternoon and wet, something she has not been doing in the daytime for the last few days without it taking a long time being outside with her.

Did your vet do a CBC? Usually with a pyometra the WBC count is high. If the dog is stable, hydrated and doing well, I go to surgery right away. Pyometras have a nasty habit of turning ugly quick. Better to catch it early.

Sending prayer that your girl will sail though the surgery in great shape.

No, he didn't do a CBC. She had just had one done two weeks ago and everything was well. Temp was almost normal. I got the impression he was not totally sure if that was what it was. Unfortunately, I can't get her in until Thur because of my home situation and work.

That kind of surprised me too Dr. Shelli. Anytime we had a post eostrus bitch with a suspected pyometra we did blood and if the WBC was high then we didn't wait either especially if the bitch in question was not going to be in a breeding program. Hopefully beautiful Natalie will be just fine and we can stop worrying about any delays.

If you could see her now, you would never suspect a thing wrong. She is just like she was two weeks ago - barking at the others, bright eyes, etc.

Other than inappropriate wetting, she didn't have any other symptoms that I saw - she was never off her food, drank normal amounts, played as usual, etc. Which is why I was not prepared for what I was told.

Dr. Shelli - in your experience, does a female with pyometra have other symptoms other than inappropriate wetting?

First and sometimes only sign is drinking more and peeing more. Vaginal discharge-maybe, lethargy when they start to go down hill, maybe vomiting and not eating. Those are late signs, Sometimes back pain.

Sometimes they are just off and you know something is wrong. That is what my trainers 2 yr BC was like 1 month after her season. Just not acting right, nothing you could put your finger on. My trainer thought it was a false pregnancy but the timing was off. When she took her to the vet, she had a 40,000 WBC and her uterus was huge and almost ready to burst.

Not meaning to scare you but pyos scare me to death. I watch Diva like a hawk.

I should add though that open pyometras(discharge present) are not as big a emergency as closed pyometras, as the infection is draining out. But one should really really be watchful to any changes..
