New puppy with interesting pattern

Phoebe is adorable...love her big gentle looking eyes! It will be fun seeing how her coat colors turn out as she matures...but she will be pretty no matter what changes her coat goes through. :smile2:

Our rescue boy, Dakota, is a sable merle. I have no idea what he looked like as a pup since he didn't come into rescue until he was 6+...but here is a pic I took of him just yesterday...

Trini - your Dakota is just beautiful!

I keep wondering about the change in coat color. Sable means brown with black tips. I have also read that the proportion of brown to black sometimes changes as the dog ages. This would explain why lighter dogs eventually look dark. If the same thing applies to merled areas, then the gray portion would be eventually bigger, turning a red brown dog to a grey one. This is just a guess on my part. I wonder if you guys could check a few individual gray hairs and see if the root area is still brownish red?

Jester is a sable merle and he has changed quite a bit over time. His mama is a sable merle color headed white his sire a tri color.

Wow, amazing how the colours get changing! Callan is mostly red now at 18 months, make me wonder if some merle will come back as he matures some more
