Obedience and Rally trial

yay! Love those pre-trial matches! So worth the drive! Good luck this weekend, paws crossed for that last leg!
Thank you! I'm going to go in the ring EXPECTING we'll do good, rather than thinking we're going to fail! Piper reads me and then feeds off of it. Not looking forward to getting up at 5 am tomorrow, have to be on the road by 6:15 at the latest!

So day 1 and Piper NQ'd because he refused the jump...little poop head cheated and cut around it lol.
Finnie on the other hand, I thought would do HORRIBLY! I had zero focus, he was whiny and sooo anxious before hand. Then my trainer suggested I put him on a sit stay in the middle of the aisle (amidst the people and dogs), she said (and this makes so much sense) that you don't ask for manners where there are no distractions, but rather where there are tons of them! She said you ask for manners outside the ring, you'll get manners inside the ring.
I gotta say I didn't have a lot of faith going in but Finnie surprised me on the first sign (sit, down) and he continued all the way through. We messed up on one sign (1,2,3 steps back dog in front position) and I asked for a redo (Finnie wasn't with me 100%) and I had a tight leash on the figure 8 so lost 1 point there. I had such a good time with him, he was trying soooo hard to concentrate and stay in heel, made me smile just watching him. One sign was a left 270 degree turn and my trainer said he did a perfect pivot.
Unfortunately I didn't get video of him today (I honestly thought we'd crash and burn lol) but tomorrow I will for sure. I did get video of Piper so I'll post it after the weekend is over.
Oh and Finnie won a big ribbon and $10.00...his score was 96/100!

Just watched Piper's video and damn he was so good...had to miss the jump!
Here it is so you can see for yourself, missed jump is near the beginning. He took second jump as I was more forceful.

nice back up...

the judge was in the way so I couldn't really see how you signalled that first jump.
I've done so much jump work trying to get Cran through agility, I have to work to keep him with me until we get to the jump- he wants to take it as soon as he sees it. but then the send to the jump is do-able for us- just gets him barking, he gets too excited........

I know, judge was in the way! I just do my left hand to signal him and say Bar. Piper I have no problem with him taking it ahead of time, his issue is with NOT taking it lol. I can't crowd him, he took the high jump and I signal it the same (left hand and HUP) but I was much more forceful with my command after he missed the bar. I practiced a few times with him after we got home and I have to be firm and he takes it. I could try running to it and say bar but he may be out of position after (but then maybe take the deduction and get a leg lol).

Wow, great advice! I would not thought of that either!!!

Go Finnie! What a star!!!’

OMG!!! Lisa, that was impressive. Such focus and with you every step! When you took steps forward and then back was super impressive as Piper was right there with you!

Piper did great!!!

So Finnie scored 100 today in Rally but the judge was awful in that he wasn't deducting anything! I'm all for getting a good score but I want to earn it!
At the beginning of the walk the judge actually said 'I've made the course shorter because it's not about the heeling, but about doing the exercises '.....huh?????
Finnie was bad....barking the ENTIRE time, out of position, I'm certain I had a tight leash AND I stepped on his paw:ROFLMAO:!
Little **** got in front of me as we were doing a 360 degree turn lol. I must say he was better behaved after that.
Here's his video from today.

Wow- not bad but yeah- didn't see the judge write anything on his clipboard.......

are you doing directed jumping with Piper? how does he do with that?
maybe you should do a little jump work- build some more value for jumping on the first command.....

The judge didn't write anything down. Piper did good today but I screwed up...there we're some snarling dogs (plus 5 bitches in heat that had used the obedience ring for conformation...we were almost 2 hours late at starting) and on the sign double about u turn (I turn left he goes right) I lost him on it and rather than just getting him back I asked for a redo forgetting there are no redo's in excellent (I realized it after I said it) and so just treated it as a training run but he took both the high and bar jump. Had I realized what the judge was like of course.....
