Older sheltie wants nothing to do with new sheltie puppy

Give it some time. When we got Emma as a puppy Indy ignored her completely or curled his lip at her. Once she reached about 10 lbs size he started playing with her just fine...it was as if he didn't know what to do with a puppy that small. Figaro is the same way with his own puppies...he doesn't want them to LOOK at him but he does like sniffing them as they walk away. Once Angus got some size Figaro has played with him NON-STOP every since. Angus is quite different in that he really likes puppies. Indy still ignores the puppies completely, he circles the room to stay away from them. Sasha thinks that all puppies are her babies, Emma thinks that all puppies are her babies.
 
A little bit of progress was made today. Trevor was able to get a couple feet from Penny before she bailed. Before if he was in the same room she would bail. Of course he still chased after her. :lol:
 
UPDATE: We seem to have had a breakthrough today. This morning the little guy got really close to Penny and she made this low guttural growl but her tail was wagging at the same time. Ever since then she doesn't leave the room when he's around and even when he chases after her she just stands her ground. Now he jumps at her like he's trying to initiate a chase. I'm thinking she might take him up on it soon!
 
Sounds good. They will work it out, just let him grow into a good "play" size and let her get used to the idea.
 
That is great progress. Give it a another day or two,and they will be just fine.Pretty soon,you'll be having double zoomies~
 
That is too too cute. I wouldn't worry, she is warming up to him. Or at least accepting that he's there to stay! They'll be playing soon. Hang in there. :yes:
 
Love the video!!! Trevor is hilarious - what a little bundle of energy. He really is a Trevor, crazy hopping around growly sheltie nutter, gotta love it.

Can't see Penny resisting that cuteness for long.

Sounds like they will be friends before too long!!

When we added Abby...Clancy was not a happy camper at all!! We actually considered taking Abby back because we were afraid Clancy would hurt her. But...after alot of patience and Abby being a confident girly...it has worked out..took about 4 months tho. When Abby finally told Clancy off and literally knocked him on his butt...things got better!! LOL So don't give up hope!! Yours are already getting along better then mine did after 6 months!!

Very cute. Penny is reacting just like my first sheltie did to our puppy. She would just stand and watch the puppy run around. She eventually warmed up and would play with her.
